opportunities for different learning styles as well as writing and speaking Spanish. These
projects will count as a test grade. Detailed project instructions will be given well in advance to
students at the appropriate time, and students will be encouraged to submit drafts prior to the
finished project. Examples include a video about the student’s daily routine and activities, a
“tour” of the student’s town as he or she runs errands with/for a parent, a scrapbook of special
occasions and holidays from the student’s childhood, a video news report about a fire or disaster.
Classroom Rules and Discipline Procedures:
 Come to class prepared and on time.
 Maintain an attitude of respect for the teacher and other students at all times.
 Do not chew gum or bring any food or drinks in the classroom. Water bottles are permitted.
 Comply with dress code policies at all times including guys having shirts tucked in.
 Be aware of the policy on absences and make-up work. This is YOUR responsibility.
 Demerits or dress code warning slips will be given according to the ELCA Student Handbook
for failure to follow these rules or other rules/policies stated in the handbook. Parents will be
notified by email or phone call if a student’s behavior continues to disrupt the learning
environment. Teacher disrespect or other serious issues will result in the student being sent
immediately to the office for disciplinary action.
Make-up Policy: If a student is absent or checks in/out, it is his/her responsibility to make up
any missed work according to policy in the ELCA Student Handbook. It is the student’s
responsibility to obtain notes and assignments from the teacher’s website or a classmate. If a
student is absent a full day from school, make-up work is due within 2 days from the day they
return. If a student is present at school for any portion of the day but checks in/out and misses
this class (this includes excused athletic events and field trips), make up work is due the
following day at the beginning of class. Students who are out multiple days due to illness or
other excused absence must see me to discuss make-up work and due dates.

Daily Grades: This grade encompasses all classwork and the student’s participation in the
class overall. I expect students to fully participate in all activities to develop their skills in
all areas of the language. Each day of the week counts 20 points of this grade which is
entered at the end of each week. Please see the policy on absences and make-up work
which may affect this grade. Class notes are also part of the make-up work.
Quizzes/Tests/Projects: Quizzes cover vocabulary or grammar. There are no spelling
quizzes for vocabulary. Tests or projects are given at the end of each chapter.
Mid-term/Final Exam: Exams are comprehensive covering all of the chapters studied
each semester. Learning a language builds on itself, so the 2nd semester exam will
include some concepts learned in the 1st semester. I provide review and study guides for
exams, but a student must keep up throughout the semester in order to have the best
chance of success on the exams.
Help Sessions: Help sessions are offered prior to all tests (usually 1-2 days before the test) as
well as other times that students need additional help. A student who needs help must let me
his/her specific questions or areas in which he/she is struggling or needs additional explanation
in order to make best use of the time. Online resources are also available for additional practice.
I have read and understand all of the objectives, requirements, and expectations for the
