Nurturing Parenting is a non-judgmental proven series of lessons that empower parents and caregivers with the skills
to increase positive parenting attitudes and behaviors, and support a more nurturing way of life for families.

Nurturing Parenting Education Workshop Descriptions
The Philosophy and Practices of Nurturing Parenting
This class is designed to increase parents’ knowledge of nurturing parenting and nurturing as a lifestyle. Participants will
learn to describe nurturing parenting principles, realize their ability to impact a child’s emotional development by being
a nurturing parent, learn about personality traits and how they relate to parenting, and define ways parents can become
nurturing parents.
Ages & Stages of Growth for Infants and Toddlers
This class is designed to increase parent’s awareness of appropriate expectations of children. What should you expect
from an infant? What about a toddler? Expectations are an important aspect of parenting. Participants will increase their
knowledge of appropriate expectations of children, increase their knowledge of stages of child development, and review
stages of development for infants and toddlers.
Ways to Enhance Positive Brain Development in Children & Teens
This class is designed to increase parents’ ability to promote healthy brain development in their children and teens.
Participants will learn about the different parts of the brain, increase their awareness of brain development in children and
teenagers, learn how brain development is related to behavior in children and teens, learn how to stimulate healthy brain
development, and increase their awareness of the impact of inappropriate parenting.
Communicating with Respect
This class is designed o help parents recognize and communicate their feelings and the feelings of their children. Talking
to your children doesn’t have to be so hard. Participants will learn about feelings, learn how to communicate your feelings
in a healthy way, define I-Statements and You Messages, learn negotiation skills and ways to confront without criticizing,
and learn to model appropriate communication styles.
Building Self-Worth in Children
This class is designed to improve parent’s and children’s self-worth and self-concept. Does your child feel good about
him or herself? Do you want to learn how to help your child have good self-esteem? Participants will define self-concept,
self-esteem and self-worth, realize their ability to impact a child’s overall feeling of worth, learn about labels, how they
hurt children, and what you can do about it, and define ways parents can improve their children’s self-concept,
self-esteem, and self-worth.
Understanding Feelings
This class is designed to help parents recognize and understand their feelings and the feelings of their children. Feelings
can be hard to understand, especially for children. Do you want to learn how to understand your feelings, and those of
your children? Participants will define feelings of comfort and feelings of discomfort, learn how to help parent and their
children understand feelings, learn to recognize feelings in children, and learn how to teach children how to manage their
feelings.
Understanding and Developing Family Morals, Values and Rules
This class is designed to increase parents’ skills in developing family morals, values, and rules. What are family morals?
What are family values? Do you need help establishing family rules? Participants will define family morals, give
examples of family morals, relate family morals to family discipline, define family values, define the purpose of family
rules, and practice making family rules.
Praising Children and their Behavior
This class is designed to increase parents’ understanding of the importance of praise. Want to make your children feel like
a million bucks? Praise helps children feel good about themselves. Praise is important for adults too. Participants will
learn about the types of praise, increase understanding of the different uses of praise, learn how praise helps children feel
good about themselves and practice using praise.
Alternatives to Spanking
This class is designed to increase parents’ awareness of the other ways to discipline besides spanking. Do you and your
partner argue about how to discipline your children? Do you want to learn about other ways to discipline your children
without spanking? Participants will give reasons why parents spank their children, learn how spanking is detrimental to
children, and identify alternatives to spanking.
Learning Positive Ways to Deal with Stress and Anger
This class is designed to increase parents’ ability to recognize and handle stress. Do you ever feel stressed? Do you want
to find ways to relax? Participants will examine the meaning of stress, identify ways adults create stress, learn about
stressors children face and how to help them cope, and learn ways to help parents and children reduce stress.
