join us for the Spaghetti
Luncheon and Youth Service Project. The youth
will be looking forward to serving a lunch of spaghetti, salad, bread, and dessert to all who attend.
The cost for the luncheon is $5.00 and tips are
greatly appreciated. All monies raised will go toward mission trips and projects for the youth program. Along with the luncheon, the youth will be
completing various service projects for anyone
who wishes to donate. If you have any odd jobs
that need doing, this is your chance to have some
assistance! The day of service will take place on
April 12th. Sign up at the luncheon.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Last night arriving home after a long day, I came in and sat down with Wanda, who had also
had a long day at church and watched a movie. The title of the movie was “Valentine’s Day.” It is a
series of scenarios of different couples and their relationships. For some, it is a day of breaking up,
for some a day of disappointment, for some a day of experiencing loss anew, and for others a day of
joy, celebration, and wonder.
Back in 1969, during Wanda’s sophomore year and my junior year, we had decided at Christmas to date other people. As Valentine’s approached that year, I was convinced that Wanda was the
one. I had been pretty sure of this since I first met her in the fall of 1967, but needed some way to
convince her I was Mr. Right. Since I would not be with her on Valentine’s Day, I asked my brother
Lawton to pick up a dozen long-stemmed red roses and give them to Wanda for me. On the afternoon of the 13th, Lawton went by and picked up two dozen long-stemmed red roses, one for Dawn
Spainhour and one from me to Wanda Ellen Suddreth. Lawton gave Dawn her flowers on the night
of the 13th and they were beautiful, but for some reason he decided to keep Wanda’s until the 14th.
On February 14th, he took the flowers to Wanda and said, “Bill wanted you to have these.” Problem
was, the temperature had dropped well below freezing and the flowers had sat in the trunk of
Lawton’s car way too long. When Wanda opened them, they were black, wilted and frozen. I waited
several weeks for a thank you note; it was unlike Wanda not to be grateful. Finally I called Lawton,
“Did you give Wanda the flowers?” I asked. “Yes,” he replied. So then I called Wanda and said,
“Did you get the flowers?” and she said, “Yes, what was that about?” I said, “Well, I wanted you to
know I still cared.” And she replied, “With a dozen black roses?” I said, “What? They weren’t supposed to be black, what happened?”
Needless to say, Wanda and I both forgave Lawton and we did in fact renew our relationship.
Over the years, I’ve tried to make up for the dozen black roses. What I have learned is that things do
happen in life that can be misunderstood and misinterpreted but that communication is important. If
you are confused this Valentine’s about a relationship, talk about it because talking speaks louder
than a dozen red roses. May God bless us on this Valentine’s Day.
