Remember, this guide is made to assist you and make the process as easy as 1 2 3. September: 4 Liters Challenge Familiarize yourself with the Hummingbirds’ Navajo Water Project – We ask you to visit www.hummingbirdsfoundation.org/navajowaterproject for an explanation of the current situation in the communities in New Mexico and what will be done to bring water to the Navajo Nation. Set a goal – We suggest each Mother/Daughter team raise $1,000 over the course of three fundraising events 4 Liters Challenge (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6P_iHfyivY) Join Los Angeles Major Eric Garcetti and start this journey by going a day in their shoes and taking on the 4 Liters Challenge. (www.Hummingbirdsfoundation.org/4literschallenge) Did you know that over a billion people worldwide live on only four liters of water a day? Can you? This challenge is simple. Pick a day between September 8th through the 30th. On this day you and your daughter will use only 4-‐liters of water for everything you do. Ask other family members, friends, neighbors, etc. for donations (suggested minimum donations of $25 each) and aim to raise at least $250 each. You know your circle best, if you think $10 or $20 would be a better marker than just aim to get more donors. Remember, your daughter is involved to…don’t do it all for her : ) Maybe her friends can give $5 each…also ask teachers, coaches, etc. Maybe you could make it a competition between Mom and Daughter…who can raise the most gets “no dishes for the week.” Week before challenge: • Go on Hummingbirdsfoundation.org/4literschallenge to sign up! • Change their profile picture and cover photos to the one as found on ________.com • Reach out to media outlets, like the neighborhood newspaper for media attention! This can help promote the cause and bring in more donors. • A Facebook event page with the link to Hummingbirdsfoundation.org/4literschallenge for people to donate on. Invite all friends and family to participate, online and in person. • Start posting on social media about the challenge. An example post could look like: “Can you believe that a billion people worldwide survive on only 4 liters of water a day? That’s 4 bottles of water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, and bathing! Would you be able to last a day? Because on September ____, I’m doing the #4Liter Challenge and limiting my water use to only 4 liters. Please sponsor my 24hour journey and donate a minimum of $25 by visiting Hummingbirdsfoundation.org/4literschallenge. 100% of all contributions will go towards the Hummingbirds’ Navajo Water Project.” Your daughter will do a similar post for her challenge to shout out to her friends. 1-‐2 Days before challenge: • Remind your friends about the challenge! Create a status alongside a vlog or blog about how you feel in preparation of this challenge. What are some of the things that you are excited or nervous about prior to undertaking the 4-‐liter challenge? • Reach out to friends and family for sponsorships! Tell them about your part as a Hummingbird and the impact they will make as part of The Hummingbirds’ Navajo Water Project. • Invite friends to join you and take the 4 Liters Challenge and donate through your link. Challenge day: • Post a picture or video in the morning in front of your 4 liters of water. Post your experience throughout the day and always include the link Hummingbirdsfoundation.org/4literschallenge for donors to donate. Make sure to mention how much water you have left and what you have learned or struggled with. Use #_______________ • Good luck! Day after challenge: • Tag 5 friends in the post to also take on the challenge! Encourage these people to go on Hummingbirdsfoundation.org/4literschallenge and donate to the cause. Winter Fundraiser (November -‐ February) I would suggest November… donors tend to be more charitable before the Holidays than after Start brainstorming ideas 4 to 6 weeks before each of your events. Make sure to keep your daughter involved in all the ideas and planning. Take a look at the Hummingbirds’ Go & Get Guide for ideas and consider the following to promote your event. • Change your profile picture and cover photos leading up to events. • Reach out through your neighborhood Facebook page, media outlets, neighborhood newspaper, etc. to help promote the cause and bring in more donors. • Create a Facebook event page with the link for people to donate on. Invite all friends and family to participate, online and in person. • Start posting on social media March: Letter Writing Campaign We have attached a sponsorship letter that you and your daughter can mail out to friends, family and acquaintances to explain the cause and ask for any additional help. We will also send you an updated itinerary, so get ready for the weekend of a lifetime! Friday, April 22nd -‐ Earth Day We are only ONE WEEK out…Congratulations and FEEL PROUD!!! Host a blanket and/or toiletry drive to take items with you on your trip to the Navajo Nation and gift your new friends. Remember… After each challenge, please share some of your greatest moments in photos with a blurb of your event and your totals to be posted on the Hummingbirds’ Website.
