Coin Word Problems
1. In your pocket is some combination of pennies and nickels, the total value of which is $0.84.
If the number of nickels is three less than twice the number of pennies, how many pennies do you have?
2. After work on Friday your boss decides he is going to pay you in cash. He hands you
22 bills totaling $350. However, since there was a big rush a Build-A-Bear this week,
he can only give you a combination of $5 and $20 bills. How many $5 bills do you have?

3. A stamp collector has some 15-cent stamps and some 20-cent stamps. The number of
15-cent stamps is eight less than three times the number of 20-cent stamps. The total
value is $4. Find the number of each type of stamp in the collection.
4. At the post office you spend $1.00 on a combination of 5-cent, 10-cent, and 20-cent
stamps. The number of 20-cent stamps is half that of the number of 5-cent stamps. The
number of 20-cent stamps plus the number of 10-cent stamps is four. How many 5-cent
stamps do you have?
