 Literal Definition = related to two tongues
 Dictionary Defintion = (adj) speaking fluently in

 After taking Spanish for years in elementary, middle,
and high school, I still wouldn’t consider myself
bilingual.

 Bi + nomos (part) +ial (characteristic of)
 Literal definition = characteristic of two parts
 Dictionary definition = (n) an algebraic expression
of the sum or the difference of two terms (4 +x)
 We are learning to multiple and divide binomials
this week in math class.

 Literal definition = related to two parts
 Dictionary definition = (adj) involving two political
parties that usually disagree on policies
 Hopefully, the bipartisan committee will be able to

 Literal definition = make or become equal
 Dictionary definition = (v) to think of one thing as
the same another; to think of two things as equal
 Students like to equate effort with good grades, but
putting forth a lot of effort doesn’t always equal good
grades.

 Literal definition = characteristic of equal worth

amount, or meaning

 Dictionary definition = (n) a punctuation mark (;)
that indicates a break in an idea that is stronger
than one indicated by a comma but less than one
indicated by a period

connect two independent clauses to form a
compound sentence.
