Minutes of DRURY UNIVERSITY PANHELLENIC COUNCIL March 25, 2014 The regular meeting was called to order by President Desirae Fowler at 7:15 in the Student Activities Office. The roll was called by Secretary Kathryn Wilson. ROLL CALL: Panhellenic: Desirae Fowler [Y], Elle Hammond [N], Emily Kruse [Y], Megan Reed [Y], Ashley Sivils [Y], Laddie Miller [N], Kaleigh Jurgensmeyer [Y], Kathryn Wilson [Y], Rhianon Brown [Y], Kiah McCarley [Y], Ellen Mitchell [Y], Jenny Scoggin [Y] Advisor: Andrea Battaglia [Y], Brandon Lawson [Y] GUESTS Ryan Demore (see IFC announcements) PREVIOUS MINUTES Previous minutes were approved as distributed. BYLAW REVIEW OFFICER REPORTS President: Officers should keep on track with their personal goals. Officers need to determine what size polo she needs. Officers need to have three sentences about each member written in third person. Elle is working on the National Panhellenic report. Megan, Elle and Desirae will meet to discuss the restructuring of the voting process for recruitment counselors. Desirae will talk about Greek life this Saturday and Discover Drury. Megan can hold a Q&A for parents about Greek life. There is a dinner held before the freshmen first day. o Parents usually attend this. o This dinner will be on June 26th. o Panhellenic members should keep this date in mind. o Use the Hoblit for this dinner. Badge day will be different next year. Delegates need to talk with their chapters about moving Greek Week to the fall. o Great kick-off event for new members. o Possibly get a Greek-week committee made up of non-Panhellenic/IFC members. Scholarship deadlines are coming up. o There will be incentives for students that fill out these applications. o Panhellenic officers need to fill these out as well. May 6th will be a recap meeting. o Chapter advisors and others are welcome to come. o Individuals can give their input about how the Panhellenic Council is doing. Vice President: No report. Recruitment: Delegates need to turn in early move-in forms. Megan will order a shirt for the new Fraternity House Director. Involvement: The advisor dinner will be held on April 16th from 6-8 p.m. o Panhellenic members should attend this dinner. o Laddie will bring more information about this at the next meeting. Secretary: Kathryn will upload events to the Wiggio calendar as soon as Greek Week is finalized. Panhellenic members should continue to send finalized dates to Kathryn. Events: Ashley is finishing the packets to send to the chapter presidents and Panhellenic members. Greek Week events are as follows: o April 7th: At 6:00 pm there will be a banner painting and BBQ. At 7:10 there will be a Cardinals game. o April 8th: Survival games (tug-of-war, speed pyramid, water balloon toss, etc.). Ashley will reserve Wieser or another area in case of rain. o April 9th: Panthers for Prevention Tent event 11-1. Have food catered during this time. “Wear your letters Wednesday” Greek Goddess pageant. o April 10th: Canned castles on Sunderland field. Greek Picture. o April 11th: Concert at the quad. Greek Excellence awards. Setup times will be determined shortly. Delegates need to take this back to their chapters. Marketing: Kaleigh will create a Greek Week Facebook page. Sam and Kaleigh will use a hash tag related to Greek Week for twitter. o Other students can use this hash tag too. o Hopefully we can get the hash tag to trend. There could be a prize for the Greek Week winner. o Possibly furniture or a plaque with the winner’s name put by a tree. o Kaleigh will email Betty Crow about this. Treasurer: Delegates should ask if their chapters need the number of girls in attendance for Badge Day. Emily sent out the new member invoices. We have only spent $24 on general spending purposes. o Emily reviewed other dollar amounts spent for the Panhellenic budget. Emily will meet with Baily on Thursday. Drury will see budget requests sooner now. o Greek life is now considered to be class 4. ANNOUNCEMENTS Chapter news Pi Beta Phi: o o Initiation week will be next week. Pi a Pi Phi went really well. Donations are still coming in. Tri Delta: o Tri Delta prefers to have spring recruitment on February 8th-12th. Zeta Tau Alpha: o Initiation week is this week. o Princess night will be March 29th. This is for little kids. Kappa Delta: o The 5K went really well. o $1,300 raised to prevent child abuse. o KD thinks more girls should be on sober squad to prevent binge drinking. Advisor Announcements: Delegates need to have academic chairs send their chapter’s academic information (individual member grades) to [email protected]. We need to look into the AFLV award. o Possibly apply for some awards. We need to change the way we do some things. o Getting a calendar in earlier, etc. The Springfield police could not do the security walk through. o This is being rescheduled. Jacob Popa will be attending the IFC meeting. o Brandon will keep Ashley in the loop. o She can attend the IFC meeting. We need a system for Greek Week setup. o There can be a signup sheet. Presenters need to practice. Cardinals tickets will cost $2 for students. Vito will be in charge of the concert quad event. IFC Announcements: (Ryan spoke) Brian Shipman met with Ryan and Desirae. o There is a philanthropy opportunity on May 10th from 8 am - 12 pm. o Students can take furniture from homes to beautify the area around Drury. o Possibly require each chapter to have 10 individuals volunteer for this event. Two shifts of 5 individuals. Breakfast and lunch will be brought to volunteers. Panhellenic members should be there as well. o Brian would like to announce Drury Greek life in the newsletter if we are able to help. April is Sexual Assault Prevention month. o On April 16th there will be a student speaker. April 23rd is solidarity day. o Support rape victims. o Wear denim. Planning for Greek Week is important. Marketing for Greek Week is also very important. o Dates and events need to be announced. o o Fliers can be made. Posters in the CX, FSC, Gym. Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held April 1st in the Student Activities Office. ADJOURNMENT: Meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm on March 25, 2014 in the Student Activities Office.
