Renaissance/Reformation/Scientific Revolution Thinkers - Essay
You will choose a scientist or philosopher who was influential during the Renaissance, Reformation, or
Scientific Revolution. You will be required to find at least FIVE sources that detail the life, career and
important accomplishments of that person.
See attached sheet for choices and sources:
You will be required to write 2-3-page paper, double-spaced (approximately 750-1000 words). Necessary
information includes:
- Introduction: 1 paragraph that includes general overview of paper and your topic. Also
includes nationality, location of birth, and years individual was alive
- Accomplishments (Should include a minimum of two and explain who or what might
have influenced each accomplishment—Suggested length: .5-1 page)
- Historical circumstances of the time period (ie. What influence, if any, did the church have on
his accomplishments, how did society of the time view his work…? Suggested length: 1-1.5
pages)
- Impact on his generation (In what ways did (s)he change the way people think?) Suggested
length: 1/2 to 1 page
- Impact on future generations (Today, how do we see the impact of his accomplishments?)
Suggested length: 1/2 to 1 page
- Conclusion: Summary and analysis of key points. Suggested length: 5-7 sentences.
Your essay must be typed and include MLA parenthetical citations. Attached to your essay, you must
have a bibliography, properly formatted, according to the library MLA style sheet. You also must
include 3 books/print sources. You cannot rely solely on the Internet or Encyclopedia.
In addition to your paper, you must create a poster, PowerPoint, or movie (using I-Movie or
MovieMaker) that summarizes important ideas in your paper. Posters will be hung around the room
and you will analyze each other’s posters to complete necessary information on your table.
Project Deadlines and Due Dates (All MUST be in my classroom or mailbox by 2:05 PM on
respective date to receive credit). Exception is FINAL Project Due Date. FINAL Project must be turned
in at start of class as you will do presentations.
