Sporting Success
Pyramid Cricket Tournament
Well done to our Year 6 team who competed
in the pyramid cricket tournament on
Thursday. Our pupils participated with great
enthusiasm and demonstrated exemplary
sporting behaviour. Our team won and are
the Pyramid Champions, scoring an impressive
242 runs. The team will next represent us in
the Doncaster Finals in June.
School Development Updates
Many thanks to Miss Mellor who led our
professional development meeting for staff
this week. Miss Mellor recently attended
regional training on ‘Teaching Primary
Mathematics for Mastery’ led by the
Director of Primary Maths for the National
Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of
Mathematics. Miss Mellor led a presentation
on the development of Maths skills at
mastery level which was very helpful in
informing our teaching practice.
Miss Hull and Miss Mellor attended further
regional Maths training on Thursday. They
reported back that the training had been
excellent with many resources and strategies
to develop challenge and reasoning in Maths
lessons, so it looks like our next few staff
meetings will be very busy as they share the
training with everyone!
Mini Life Coach Training Update
After the application and interview process,
we now have our very own mini life coaches.
Mr Sayles’ update is below and more
information is available on the website at
‘Our Community’ then select ‘Mini Life
Coaches’.
Our first cohort of mini life coaches are
being put through their paces in a ten week
intense training programme. They are having
lots of fun training to be part of our
emotional health and well-being team. This
week they have been learning how to lead
mindfulness sessions. They are going to be
amazing mindfulness workshop leaders next
year! Calm mind, calm body, calm life!

Year 6 Crime Busters
Year 6 were solving a crime this week. This
involved measuring of footprints, hand spans,
taking fingerprints (including mine!) The
super sleuths have been compiling evidence
and writing incident reports with their
conclusions, so we hope the crime will be
solved soon.
Year 4 Pamper Specialists
As part of their Science project on ‘Potions’,
Year 4 have been very busy in preparation
for their enterprise event. The tempting
products they have made include bath salts,
lip balm, firming body oil, invigorating body
oil, face scrub and body scrub. The children
have made lovely packaging to help sell their
products.
Invictus Games
As part of P.E. and Games lessons this week
Mrs Farmer, our sports higher level teaching
assistant, has informed children about the
Invictus Games, the international sporting
event for wounded, injured and sick
servicemen and women. The Games use the
power of sport to inspire recovery, support
rehabilitation and generate a wider
understanding and respect of those who
serve their country. Children had fun this
week designing and then leading their own
accessible games.

Celebration for The Queen’s Birthday
We will be celebrating the 90th birthday of
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday
14th June. Our commemorative coins,
purchased by the CSA, are now in school
ready to present to the children on the day.
Children are invited to dress in non-uniform
on 14th June, in smart casual clothes for our
‘Queen’s Garden Party’ theme.
We are planning a special buffet lunch on our
celebration day and the school lunch menu
for the day was sent home last week for you
to list your child’s choice of bread and filling
for their sandwich. Please return the order
slip by Monday 23rd May so that our cook
can place her food orders.
 If your child usually has school lunch
and we have not received a slip by
Monday 23rd then we will ask the
children to make their choice in school
so the food orders can be placed.
 If your child usually has their own
sandwiches they are welcome to still
have these on the 14th June and to
join our party tables.
Alternatively, children who usually
have sandwiches can book a school
lunch for the 14th June. Please note
we cannot accept orders after
Monday 23rd May as our cook has to
place her food order.
The Queen’s Birthday Card Competition
We are holding a competition for children to
design a birthday card for the Queen.
We will choose a winner and runner-up from
Years 3-4 and another winner and runner-up
from Years 5-6. The two winning cards will
be posted to Buckingham Palace – perhaps
Her Majesty will put them on her
mantelpiece!
We have two lovely hampers full of treats as
our first prize and runner-up prizes too.
Many thanks to the CSA for organising this.
The closing date for entries is Monday 6th
June.
A letter with all the details is being sent out
on Monday 23rd May.

Peripatetic Music Lessons 2016-2017
Miss Passant, our Arts subject leader, has
sent letters out regarding music lessons for
next school year. Music is a big part of
school life! This year we have been involved
in three choir events, all Year 4 pupils have
enjoyed Samba lessons as part of our ‘ Wider
Opportunities’ programme and instrumental
lessons have included guitar, violin, woodwind
and brass.
If your child wishes to start lessons or to
continue with lessons please let us know by
Wednesday 25th May as Miss Passant needs
to return our requests to the Music Service.
We have just a few spaces remaining for our
children who would like to start playing a
musical instrument:
Clarinet – 3 spaces available
Flute – one place available
Violin – one place available
Guitar – 2 places available
Please contact the school office by
Wednesday 25th of your child would like to

Road Safety Lessons – Well Done to Y4
Our Year 4 pupils took part in practical road
safety lessons on local roads this week. The
sessions were led by a Local Authority Road
Safety Officer, who took out small groups at
a time. At the end of her sessions our Road
Safety Officer made a special point of
coming to tell me that the children were ‘an
absolute credit to the school’ for their
‘excellent behaviour and politeness’. Of
course this is only what we all expect, but is
lovely to hear our children being praised.
Well done to every pupil in Year 4!

NSPCC Assembly and Workshops
Linda Gardner from the NSPCC joined us for
our whole school assembly on Thursday. She
talked to all the children about the
importance of ‘Speaking Out to Stay Safe’,
the work of the NSPCC and ChildLine. Next
week Linda is returning to lead workshops
with children in Years 5 and 6.
In order to support the NSPCC we have sent
out a Maths quiz and children may be
sponsored for the questions they answer
correctly. This is entirely voluntary. If your
child would like to take part in raising funds
for the NSPCC Linda is returning on 9th June
and 16th June to collect sponsor forms and
funds.
Eve Merton Dreams Trust – Thank You!
As part of our Sporty Week in March the
children in our Sports Council organised a
sponsored walk to raise funds for the Eve
Merton Dreams Trust. This is a local charity
that helps local people living with cancer to
achieve their dreams. This charity is special
to us as Mr Siddall played in the charity
football match last year and raised a good
sum of money. After Mr Siddall’s funeral in
October we raised £520 after the balloon
launch in his memory.
family fun and football are what your
child/ren enjoy, then please support the
event if you can.
Thanks to the generosity of children, staff
and parents we raised an amazing £1200
from our sponsored walk for the Eve Merton
Dreams Trust. This week Mr Johnson from
the charity came to talk about the work of
the Eve Merton Dreams Trust and how it has
helped many local people. The charity is a
small local one so they are keen to spread
news of their work. You can visit their
website at www.evestrust.co.uk and they
would love people to ‘like’ their Facebook
page.
