You see them every day
Now treat them through the scope with Precision
Precision Endoscopic Technologies LLC has designed the first and only “through
the scope” infrared coagulator device to treat internal hemorrhoids under direct
visualization and with pinpoint accuracy. The Precision IRC provides physicians a
new option for treating hemorrhoids by using the advantages of infrared
coagulation. The procedure is done simply and safely through an endoscope and

Why treat internal hemorrhoids?
Many people suffer from hemorrhoids. Physicians see patients on a routine basis who suffer from hemorrhoids.
Early detection and treatment of hemorrhoids will result in less pain and discomfort to your patients later on. A new
tool, the Precision Endoscopic Infrared Coagulator is now available. This tool will safely and efficiently treat this
troublesome condition through the use of an endoscope which will contribute to the patients’ overall health and
well-being.
What are the advantages of this new procedure?
The biggest advantage to this new procedure is that it is through the
scope. You are able to treat the internal hemorrhoid under direct
visualization and full retroflexion with pinpoint accuracy. The physician
gets immediate visual confirmation of the treatment status. The
procedure has a brief duration, few, if any complications and is less
painful than band ligation. Therapy is indicated for Stage 1, 2 and 3
internal hemorrhoids and evidence to date indicates a good response
to infrared coagulation. The procedure is performed on an outpatient
basis safely and effectively in the office, surgery center or hospital.

How is this new procedure performed?
- The physician will order a gentle bowel prep prior to the procedure.
- The procedure may be done with or without anesthesia, depending on patient preference.
- The patient lays on their side and a colonoscope or sigmoidoscope is inserted into the rectum
- A single-use, disposable flexible light guide is advanced through the endoscope until the distal tip appears.
- The scope is then retroflexed and the light guide is advanced until contact is made with the tissue.
- Treatment pulses are applied to the base of the hemorrhoid just above the dentate line.
What is the reimbursement for the procedure?
Endoscopic infrared coagulation therapy may require multiple treatments which are covered by most insurance.
CPT Codes exist in the U.S. for facility and non-facility reimbursement.
Current Codes:
- 46930 Destruction of internal hemorrhoids by thermal energy
- 45334 Sigmoidoscopy, flexible; with control of bleeding
