What are the advantages of this new procedure? The biggest advantage to this new procedure is that it is through the scope. You are able to treat the internal hemorrhoid under direct visualization and full retroflexion with pinpoint accuracy. The physician gets immediate visual confirmation of the treatment status. The procedure has a brief duration, few, if any complications and is less painful than band ligation. Therapy is indicated for Stage 1, 2 and 3 internal hemorrhoids and evidence to date indicates a good response to infrared coagulation. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis safely and effectively in the office, surgery center or hospital. flexible endoscope Precision Endoscopic Infrared Coagulator hemorrhoid How is this new procedure performed? - The physician will order a gentle bowel prep prior to the procedure. - The procedure may be done with or without anesthesia, depending on patient preference. - The patient lays on their side and a colonoscope or sigmoidoscope is inserted into the rectum - A single-use, disposable flexible light guide is advanced through the endoscope until the distal tip appears. - The scope is then retroflexed and the light guide is advanced until contact is made with the tissue. - Treatment pulses are applied to the base of the hemorrhoid just above the dentate line. What is the reimbursement for the procedure? Endoscopic infrared coagulation therapy may require multiple treatments which are covered by most insurance.
