Word Work-Abel Check-up will be on Monday, October 18th Word Work skill: long vowels with –vCe pattern (vowel/consonant/silent e) Explanation: Long vowel sounds are heard in many words. This week’s focus highlights words that have a long vowel sound where the vowel says its name. A vowel usually has a long sound when a consonant and an e come after it. The ‘e ‘at the end of the word is silent. On the check up, students will be responsible for understanding this pattern. NO EXCUSE words will be a part of the dictation sentences. As usual, the students will choose five personal words that demonstrate their understanding of -vCe. They will be responsible for these words on the check up as well.
