Check-up will be on Monday, October 18th
Word Work skill: long vowels with –vCe pattern (vowel/consonant/silent e)
Explanation: Long vowel sounds are heard in many words. This week’s focus
highlights words that have a long vowel sound where the vowel says its name. A
vowel usually has a long sound when a consonant and an e come after it. The ‘e ‘at
the end of the word is silent.

The focus list gives examples of words using the –vCe pattern. On the check up,
students will be responsible for understanding this pattern. NO EXCUSE words
will be a part of the dictation sentences.
As usual, the students will choose five personal words that demonstrate their
understanding of -vCe. They will be responsible for these words on the check up
as well.
Please review and practice finding words using the –vCe pattern when reading
together this week!
