Welcome to the United Nations Headquarters
The Expert Group Meeting will take place Monday and Tuesday (8-9
June) in Conference Room 6.
Conference Room 6 is located at Basement 1 of the Conference
Building in the Headquarters complex. In this document, you will find
a simple guide with the two possible ways to arrive at Conference
Room 6. Photographs of each step are provided along with directions,
to make your transition there as easy as possible.
1. Arrival to the United Nations Headquarters
-Upon your arrival at United Nations Headquarters,
please use the Visitors Entrance on 1st Avenue
between 45th & 46th Streets.
-For those of you requiring a pass, a colleague will be
there to provide you with one.
-Please proceed to the security checkpoint at the
entrance, and wear the assigned pass at all times.
2. Entrance to the Conference Building
- After you have gone through the security check, make your way
to the entrance (pictured left) of the Conference Building.
- There, you will find yourself in the main foyer of the building,
where the Information Point is located.
- Walk straight past the Information Point, all the way to the end
of the hallway, with on your right-hand side, the portraits of the
Secretaries-General (right photo).
3.Reach the Guided Tours Point
- At the end of the hallway, you will see the Guided Tours Point
on your left, and another information desk on your right. Take a
left there, at the open hallway that leads to the elevators.
4. Elevators - Route 1
- At the hallway leading to the elevators, use your pass to get through the
security scanners (left photo). The first possible route is by elevator.
-Take the elevator to Basement 1, one floor down. There you will exit and
walk straight on through the large corridor (right photo) leading to the café
(‘Viennese Café’). Refer to Step 6 for further instructions.
5. Escalators - Route 2
- In case the elevators are too busy, you may take the escalators one floor
down. From the elevator point, turn right and walk the length of the
corridor, passing on your right the Royal Barge Replica from Thailand. A
few meters further down, you will see an exit on your right marked
“Secretariat Building” (center photo).
-Exit right and you will see the escalators; use the downward escalator,
marked “Escalator Down” (left photo).
-Once you take the escalators one floor down, turn right through the hallway.
There you will see many conference rooms, starting with Conference Room 2.
Make your way down this hallway until you reach the elevator bank.
- At the elevator bank, turn left through the large hallway, and
proceed to where the café (‘Viennese Café’) is located.
6. Cafe Point
- You have arrived at the Viennese Café, situated in the middle of this large hallway
(left photo), with two paths on either side. Take the right-hand path, passing the café.
At the end of it you will have arrived at Conference Room 6.

Meeting starts at 9:30 am (both
Monday and Tuesday). You are kindly
requested to have with you or wear
at all times the identification passes
provided to you.
