#5: Simplify Your Emotional Life
Text: Numbers 9:15-23; Proverbs 3:5-6
1. 2. 3. 4.
5. 6. 7. How would you rate your emotional life? Are you constantly over-‐burdened? What are some of the largest burdens you’re carrying? Do you see any chances of simplification in this area? Now imagine you were among the population of the Israelites, God’s chosen people, during the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. What kind of burdens did they carry? Can you relate? What kind of sign did God give to His people during their time in the wilderness to indicate He was with them (Numbers 9:15; Exodus 13:21; 16:10; cf. Isaiah 6:4; Revelation 15:8)? What was the guidance system upon which the Israelites relied (Numbers 9:16-‐17; Exodus 40:36-‐37; Psalm 74:14). Who was ultimately guiding and leading the people (Numbers 9:18)? How were the Israelites expected to respond to this guidance from God (Numbers 9:19-‐20, 23; 1:54; 2 John 6)? Do you think they ever doubted God’s guidance and direction? While God’s direction and timing in our lives may not make sense to us, why should we still trust in His guidance over our own (Numbers 9:21-‐22; Proverbs 3:5-‐6; Psalm 16:8)? Are you currently trusting your own “instincts” to guide you rather than trusting God’s guidance (Psalm 86:11)? How can trusting in Him simplify your emotional life (Matthew 11:28-‐30)? Memory Verse:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (6) In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. (Proverbs 3:5-‐6, ESV)
