YOUTH SOCCER
The Youth Soccer program is designed for children
between Kindergarten and 6th grade. Kindergarteners
will focus on fun, age-appropriate skills and games once
a week. For 1st/2nd graders, there is one week-night
and one Sat. practice that will allow in-house games,
along with two Sat. Jamborees during the season. For
3rd-6th, there is one week-night practice and a home or
away Sat. game, in addition to the two Jamborees.
The youth basketball program is for grades K-6 and held in
the HCS gym. Grades 1&2 will focus on skills and play inhouse games. Grades 3-6 will have one mid-week practice
and play home and away games within the greaterBurlington area through CVRA - Champlain Valley Recreation Association - January 5 through February 9, 2013.
Kindergarten: Sat. 9-9:45 am at HCS field.
Grade 1&2 all: Sat. 8-9 am.
Grade 1&2 Co-ed: Sat. 9-10 or 10-11 am at Lyman Park
and Thurs. 6-7 pm at United Church & Town Hall Field.

After School Enrichment Options
Autumn 2012 at HCS
This program is designed for Hinesburg children, regardless of where they attend school. All registration and
payments are made through HRD - Hinesburg Recreation Department. Programming questions can be directed to
the Recreation Department at 482-2281 ext. 230 or via e-mail at [email protected]. Classes are not held
when school is cancelled, during vacations, or on half-days. Prompt pick-up at the completion of class is appreciated. There are limited scholarships available. Please call with any questions or suggestions. Helping our children
grow, learn, and have fun is what recreation is all about!
After-School Horseback Riding
Enjoy horseback riding lessons with Kim Johansen. These
lessons are for beginning and early intermediate riders.
Kim will instruct children on basic horse care, tacking,
along with riding instruction. Take the bus from HCS to
Livery Stables, located at 601 Lavigne Hill Rd. right after
school. Please be sure to send a permission note with
your child to ride the bus. Also, plan to pack a snack for
your hungry rider.

When: Tuesdays, Sept. 11, 18, 25, Oct. 2, 9, & 16

Junior After School Golf
Join Cedar Knoll Golf Pro Barry Churchill for this afterschool golfing option. The perfect opportunity for a
youngster who’s taken some lessons - such as Barry’s
Youth Golf Camp - and is ready to play on the course.
Range balls and video analysis is included to analyze
their swing.
Who: 2nd-8th graders
Where: Cedar Knoll Golf Course. Students may take the
bus from HCS. Please include a permission note.
When: Sept. 10-16
Time: Mon-Thurs is 3:30-5:30 pm. Participants will play
on the course in a tournament on Friday 9/16.
Cost: $110
Maximum: 6 players - this will go fast!!

After-School Dance
A dance class designed for youngsters that offers the
basics of ballet, jazz, tap and creative movement. A
wonderful opportunity for children right after school.

When: Tuesdays - Oct. 2 through Dec. 18 (10 classes)
Session 2 will begin after holiday break with dates to
follow in Winter brochure.

Did you know that Hinesburg Recreation has a selfserve option to register for programs? The Town Hall
building is open M-F from 8:00 am - 10:00 pm.

outside Rec. Office.
Hinesburg Children’s Choir
For students who wish to sing, receive vocal training
based on Kodaly concepts, singing in tune, using “head
voice”, the upper register, harmony, breathing, tone
quality, enunciation, sight singing, reading music,
solfege, and music theory. Repertoire will include traditional American literature and folk songs, children’s songs
by classic composers, jazz, ethnic music from around the
world and contemporary music. A white shirt and black
pants are needed for concerts and a willingness to focus
and learn. Directed by Andrea Baldwin Haulenbeek with
a BS & MA in music education, taught for 30 years, is a
professional pianist, composer/arranger, organist, and
piano teacher.
Who: 2nd - 4th graders
When: Mondays starting 9/10 through 12/17.
Where: Jenny Cianciola’s Music Room at HCS.
Time: 2:45-3:30 pm

* Fee covers cost of music, which is donated to the
Hinesburg Community School Music Library.
CHILDREN’S ENRICHMENT
Pre-School Dance with Miss Jeanne
Come join the fun of Miss Jeanne’s creative movement
dance class. This class offers the basics of ballet, tap,
and gymnastics. There is music and singing in an open
atmosphere. Students should wear loose clothing that
allows comfortable movement - leotards, tights, and
even a tutu if desired. Classes run Sept. through May
with a recital the first Friday in June.
Who: 3-4 year olds
When: Fridays, starting Sept. 7th.

After-School Arts and Crafts
with Chris Billis
Join Chris Billis on a whirlwind creative tour that brings
silkscreening, fiber arts, painting, customizing t-shirts
and clothing with fraying and bleaching techniques.
Creating plush and stuffed animals. Design your own
stationary with leaves and various materials. Create door
harps and mosaic stepping stone for the garden. Lots of
opportunity for students to delve into their projects with a
generous hour and a half time frame. A wonderful afterschool opportunity for children who love art.

American Red Cross Baby Sitting Course
Taught by the American Red Cross, this course gives youths
ages 11-15 the knowledge and confidence to care for infants
& school-age children. Combining video, activities, hands-on
skill training, and discussion for a complete learning experience, Babysitter’s Training teaches youth how to learn to
respond to emergenices and illnesses with first aid & rescue
breathing, make decisions under pressure, communicate
with parents to learn household rules, recognize safety and
hygiene issues, manage young children, feed, diaper, and
care for infants and start a babysitting business. Be the most
popular sitter on the block by earning your certificate!

Creepy Creature Cake Decorating
Join Wendy Frink of Blackberry Hill Bakery for this
Halloween cupcake decorating frenzy. Decorate mini
cakes with colored frostings and unique pariels to
celebrate Halloween. Bring home your edible creatures in a bakery box, specially decorated to conclude
your success. A fun way for your child to spend an
hour after school, creating creepy, edible treats.

Little Strikers Soccer with Coach Malcom
Designed especially for children 3-5 years old, Little
Strikers is based on the idea that children naturally want
to run around with a ball and have fun. Coach Malcom
Wilson will lead this pre-school soccer experience that
includes age appropriate games where children are
exposed to basic soccer skils, working cooperatively with
other players without any pressure on winning or competition. A great first experience to soccer!!

Yoga and Strenth Training with Lee Hulsebos
Exercise and strengthen core muscles that support the
spine. Increase flexibility, balance and tension areas
with simple yoga, strength training, stretch and relaxation. Lee works effectively and supportively with
individual needs. Not geared toward active injuries.
Please bring your own mat.
Who: Ages 15 years and older.
When: These are on-going classes and you may join
anytime. Newcomers should plan to speak and meet

Zumba
ZUMBA is a fusion of Latin and International
music with dance themes that create a dynamic,
exciting, effective fitness system. The routines feature
aerobic and fitness interval training with
a combination of fast and slow rhythms that tone
and sculpt the body. ZUMBA utilizes the principals of
fitness with interval and resistance training to
maximize caloric output. Come dance and sweat. Two
different times on available.
When: Thursdays, starting Sept. 6, 2012. Class is ongoing throughout the year.

Time: Options - 9: 30-10:15 am and 6:45-7:45 pm.
Cost: $7 for 45 min. morning class and $8 for hour-long

Dog Obedience with Jim Warden
Jim Warden is an expererienced dog trainer with many
fine canine graduates living in the community. Join Jim
for an informative class that provides a social opportunity for you and your dog. Work with someone who can
truly “talk to the animals.”

AARP Driver Safety Class
Sponsored by Hinesburg Recreation
Students learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic
laws, and rules of the road. Through interacting with one
another, they find out how to safely adjust to their driving to
compensate for age-related changes in vision, hearing, and
reaction time. Many insurance companies offer discounted
premiums upon completion of this course. For questions, or

Family Play Group
For children from birth to 5 years old and their adult
companion. Toys, snacks, and fun activities. Start
recreation at an early age and connect with other new
parents and the community. This is FREE and
FRIENDLY! No registration is necessary. Come play,
sing, and make new friends. A terrific way to connect
with your community.

REGISTRATION GUIDELINES
1. Registration takes place at least one week prior to the beginning of each program. Some programs require an earlier registration date.
2. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registrations are encouraged. Late fees may be applied for youth sports after registration deadline.
3. A resident is defined as a person who resides in or pays taxes in the town of Hinesburg. Non-residents add $5.00 to any registration fee.
4. Refunds will be given with one week’s notice prior to the start of any program. No refunds will be given after the start of any program.
5. Full refunds will be given for any programs cancelled by the Recreation Department. The Department reserves the right to cancel any program for lack of
minimum enrollment. Sorry, once a program begins, there will be no refunds.
6. Please note in program description if fee is payable to Recreation Department or instructor.
7. All participants must complete and sign a registration form prior to participation in any program.
8. All participants will be accommodated to the best of our ability. Some scholarships are available upon request.
