Chapel Island on Upper Saranac Lake was the setting on Saturday, September 24 for the wedding of Laura M. Harrigan, daughter of Mrs. Adeline H a r r i g a n of Champlain, N.Y., and James M. La Valley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald La Valley, Demars Blvd., Tupper Lake. Deacon J a m e s Ellis of St. Alphonsus Church officiated at the wedding ceremony which included the lighting of the wedding candle. Mrs. Harrigan wore her native long tartan kilt to escort her daughter to the altar. The bride wore a white satin gown with fitted bodice overlaid with chantilly lace. The A-line skirt flowed into a cathedral length train trimmed with lace. Chantilly lace also accented the Queen Anne neckline and mutton style sleeves. Her matching hat was trimmed in lace and seeded pearls with lily of the valley draped to the side and silk olefin veiling forming a bow in the back. She carried a cascade bouquet of white mums and white roses centered with cranberry mini mums and rose babies breath. Miss Kim Dean of Saranac Lake, friend of the bride was maid on honor. She wore a pleated polyester gown of daphne rose designed with a sheer long sleeve polyester jacket trimmed with chantilly lace. Bridesmaids were Adeline Harrigan, and Maureen Harrigan of Champlain, sisters of the bride; Lori Harrigan of Boston, Mass., sister-in-law of the bride and Mary Reilly, a friend of the bride from Freeport, N.Y. They all wore cranberry gowns styled identically to that of the maid of honor and each carried a nosegay bouquet of daphne rose, cranberry and white chrysanthemums with rose babies b r e a t h and c r a n b e r r y and rose streamers, and wore hairpieces to match. The groom wore a Windsor style white tuxedo and white gloves. Donald La Valley of this village was best man for his son. Ushers were Tom Harrigan, brother of the bride of Boston; Mass.; James McCartney, Andrew Larche and Gordon Duval, all friends of the groom of Tupper Lake. They wore Windsor style silver grey tuxedos with white gloves. Jimmy Sloan of Tupper Lake, nephew of the groom was ringbearer. He was dressed in silver grey tuxedo identical to the groomsmen. The pillow he carried was hand-made by his mother Donna Sloan, as a gift to the bridal couple and was embroidered with the couple's names and the date in the wedding colors. Special readings selected by the bridal couple for the wedding ceremony were read by Donna Sloan, sister of the groom; Kevin Harrigan, brother of the bride and James McCartney, friend of the groom. Flowers were designed and styled by the groom's mother, Mrs. Lorraine LaValley. Chris Sullivan of Saranac Lake played the Scottish bagpipes before, during and following the wedding ceremony. Following the marriage service, a reception was held at the Wawbeek Inn on Upper Saranac Lake, with music provided by "Smile" from Plattsburgh. Wedding guests included friends and relatives from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Arizona, California, Canada and Germany. The bride is a graduate of North Country Community College in Saranac Lake and has been employed at the Federal Correctional Institute in Ray Brook. The groom is a graduate of Plattsburgh State University College and is presently general manager of the focal radio system WPTL. Mr. LaValley is also the owner of the House of Sound, a home entertainment center in Tupper Lake. Earle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Guiffre of 213 Park St., and Stephen Larabie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Larabie of Potsdam, were married here on Saturday, September 24. J u s t i c e J a m e s C. F r e n e t t e performed the outdoor marriage ceremony at 1 p.m. at the home of the bride's parents. The bride who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white lace over satin, fashioned with short sleeves, long train and a three-quarter length veil , or- namented with rosebuds which fell from a headpiece seeded with pearls. Her bridal bouquet was made of silk flowers consisting of red roses, pink and white carnations. Carla Guiffre of Tupper Lake, sister of the bride was maid of honor. She wore a light pink old fashioned gown and carried a bouquet of silk flowers with a red rose and pink carnation. Billie Jo Desmarais of Saranac Lake, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Her basket was decorated with silk flowers and she threw daisy petals. Yvon Bien-Aime of S a r a n a c Lake, friend of the groom was best man. Paul Guiffre of Buffalo, brother of the bride was the commentator for the ceremony, reading from the Family Bible, taking passages from "Corinthians I" and from "Ephesians". Vocalist for the ceremony was Mrs. Theresa Racine of Tupper Lake with selections including: "Sunrise,Sunset", "One Hand, One Heart" and "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You". Accompanying her on the guitar was Eric DeForest of Tupper Lake. The bridge that was used in the outdoor marriage ceremony wasmade by Mr. Phillip Larabie, father of the groom. For her daughter's wedding Mrs. Guiffre wore a baby blue gown with a corsage of baby blue silk carnations. Mrs. Larabie, mother of the groom wore a pink gown with a corsage of silk white carnations. A premarital party was held at the Guiffre home on Friday, September 23 and following the marriage Saturday a reception was held at the Moose Club with about seventy guests attending. Music was provided by the "Verse tones". The wedding cake was cut by Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Blander of Tupper Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Larabie are residing at 1 Pitchfork Road, Tupper Lake after a short wedding trip to Montreal, Canada. Both the bride and groom are 1979 graduates of Tupper Lake High School. The bride is employed at Sunmount Developmental Center. The groom is employed at the Federal Correctional Institute in Ray Brook, N.Y.
