7th Grade History/English Required Summer Reading Project
This summer, as students entering Seventh Grade, you will be expected to read Blood on the
River by Elisa Carbone. You will then complete one project relating to the book. You may
choose any of projects to complete. Please pay close attention to the rubrics provided, which
show how these projects will be graded.
The project should be done at home over the summer; you will not be given class
time to work on them. The project will be due in History class on the first day of school. If
you have any questions about summer reading or the projects, you may email Mr. Mento at
[email protected]. Please keep in mind that email may not be checked every day over
the summer.

Summer Reading Project Option #3 – Rewrite the Ending
For this creative writing assignment, you are to think about how the book you read ended and imagine
either an alternate ending or a sequel to the book. This should be written as though you are writing a story!
You should use dialogue and description; do not tell me what you think would happen – write about it as if
it actually happens!
You must: Make it clear if you are writing an alternate ending or a sequel, give your chapter or book a
name, use characters and information from the book you have read, explain what happens to each of the
characters in the end or after the story has ended, explain how any problems are solved, use colorful and
descriptive language to describe the characters and what happens, be imaginative and creative in thinking
about what you would change or where you think the story would go after the point the author ended, and
use proper spelling, grammar and punctuation.
