Visit the The Big Hole and Vintage Tram where the magnificent era of Diamond Discovery in Kimberley is brought back to life. Belgravia historical walk featuring 3 of the city’s most historical buildings and sites, Kampfer dam – largest permanent population of lesser flamingo, Wildebeest Kuil Rock Art Centre, Duggan Cronin Gallery, McGregor Museum and Sol Plaatjie House. O O P R Day 3 Douglas (1 night) Depart on the R 357 from Kimberley to Douglas, founded in 1848 and today a thriving fast growing Karoo town, Visit GWK wines cellar established in 1968 with a wide variety of desert and table wines. Not to miss is a visit to Die Neus, a scenic spot where the might Orange River and Vaal River meets. At Broadwater enjoy a variety of water activities, bird watching and game watching on the adjacent game farm. Day 4, Witsand Nature Reserve (1 night) Enroute to Witsand Nature Reserve you will travel through the Karoo. Your route will take you past Campbell and Griquatown, good luncheon stop over at the Proviand. Witsand means “White Sand” and the name is derived from the colour of the sand, which contrasts against the surrounding red Kalahari sands. It is a a scenic park, teeming with bird life, including the Namaqua sandgrouse, sociable weaver and Africa’s smallest raptor - the pygmy falcon with walks, hikes or cycling amongst the dunes. with endless photographic opportunities. At night be sure to enjoy the clear night skies offering some fine stargazing. Day 5- 6 Kgalagadi (2 nights) Today we are making our way up to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, +- 450 km. From Groblershoop continue on the N10 towards Upington and then onto R360 to the Kalagadi Transfrontier park. Enter the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park at Tweerivieren.gate and head towards Kamqua where the camp staff of Xaus Lodge will meet you. On the sunset drive on an open safari vehicle witness the sunset bring the warm Kalahari sands is unleashed from rocky surroundings characterised by the 18km abyss of the Orange River Gorge. The 55 383 hectares on both the northern and southern sides of the Orange River provide sanctuary to a diversity of species, from the very smallest succulents, birds and reptiles to springbok, gemsbok and giraffe. F Arrive at OR Tambo international Airport, collect your car and depart to Kimberley (5hour drive). Following N12 route from Johannesburg to Kimberley one could travel slightly back north from Warrenton to visit Vaalharts Valley where the mighty rivers of the Vaal and Harts rivers meet. Travelling onwards one will pass the quaint historical towns of Windsorton and Barkly West, rich in diamond mining history.( Located here is Mattanu Game Reserve a good alternative first night). to life and return to camp under the cover of darkness. Be on the lookout for Gemsbok, the iconic specie of the park, Suricate (Meerkats) glorious to behold, the impressive blackmaned Kalahari Lion, the king of the Kalahari Desert and an abundance of bird life, the park is famous for its birds of prey Day 1 Kimberley Day 8 (Kanoneiland) After a glorious and leisurely breakfast visit Bezalel Brandy and Wine Estate for a leisurely brandy and wine tasting tour and lunch before returning to Kanoneiland. Explore the island on foot before returning for a well-deserved sun downer and dinner amidst the lush vineyards of your guest house. Day 9 Augrabies (I night) Ten percent of the country’s vineyards are located in the Upington region, which is also home to the awardwinning Orange River Cellars, the second largest co-operative cellar in the world. Taste their excellent table and desert wines at the Orange river wine cellars situated in Upingotn, Keimoes and Kakamas. Depart early for Augrabies National park and enroute you will pass Keimoes, (mouse’s nest) and Kakamas from the Khoi word ‘gagamas’ are quaint, must see towns with their eccentric coffee shops and little road stalls along the highways offering delicious local cuisine and warm hospitality. Be sure to stop for lunch at the Kalahari gateway hotel in Kakamas for their unique Kalahari sushi offering. After checking in at your accommodation visit the Augrabies Falls National Park. The Khoi people called it ‘Aukoerebis’, or place of Great Noise, as this powerful flow of water Day 9 Springbok (2 nights) Departing from Augrabies enroute to Springbok be sure to visit the Riemvasmaak Community , one of the oldest tribes of Africa – Nama Bushmen settlement and enjoy the unique hotsprings.Travelling on the N14 visitors will pass famous towns such as Pofadder and Klein and Groot Pella famed for its dates and mission station, On the outskirts of Springbok, be sure to visit the Goegap nature Reserve, featuring 600 indigenous flowers, 45 mammal species and 94 bird species. Dinner and overnight in Springbok. Day 10 Port Nolloth and Springbok After breakfast travel on the N7 and R382 towards Port Nolloth on the Atlantic Ocean. This is a popular boating, fishing and crayfishing spot and an ideal place for lunch. Stop over at Komagas, Okiep and Nabapeep on your way back to Springbok or return via the diamond coast with its unique beauty and mystique and visit the coastal town of Klein Zee and visit the Cape Fur Seal Colony and Museum. Day 11 Namakwa Travelling along the N7 enroute to Cape Town depending on your time you could take a leisurely route via Kamieskroon and Garies traveling through the heart of the Namakwa region. Each winter and early spring this area is magically transformed from arid and drab Karoo bush to a splendor of brilliance and multitude color. This area, however at all times, offer the visitor a biodiversity seldom found anywhere else in the world with 40% of the more than 6 000 plant species, 250 bird species, 78 species of mammals and 132 species of reptiles and amphibians endemic to this area. Overnight at Lamberts Bay Day 12 Cape Town Before departing for Cape Town visit Bird Island, an important site to breeding and roosting site for sea bird. A 4 hour journey will take you into Cape for your overnight stay. In the afternoon visit Cape Point and Penguin and Seal colony at Boulders Beach. At night explore the V&A waterfront. Day 13 Cape Town Full day tour of the Mother City including a city tour, Bo-Kaap Malay Quarters, stop at Table Mountain cable station (weather permitting, visit Houses of Parliament buildings, shop for souvenirs at Green Market Square.
