CONGRATULATIONS TEACHERS
English teachers, Sister Gilmary and Peg Allton (retired), were among forty-two high school teachers in six states
who were recognized this year by the Saint Vincent College Great Teacher Recognition Program “for excellence in
teaching that provides a positive and enduring influence on students.” Current Saint Vincent freshmen nominate the
teacher who was most inspirational to them. Julia Hlavacik wrote of Mrs. Allton, “To this day, I still find myself
comparing every English teacher who teaches me to my tenth grade British Literature teacher, Mrs. Allton. In that
humble tenth grade literature class, I learned to look at literature in a whole new way. I am now an English major at
Saint Vincent College and I attribute that in no small way to my class with Mrs. Allton.” Conor Sterling wrote of
Sister Gilmary, “Sister Gilmary was one of the greatest and most inspiring teachers I have ever had the good fortune
of being taught by. Not only did she exhibit a talent for connecting with her students (despite being a six-and-a-halffoot-tall nun), but she truly cared about her subject and was driven by her desire to share the knowledge she
possessed.” Congratulations Mrs. Allton & Sr. Gilmary!

CAREER DAY 2013
York Catholic High School hosted a Career Day for senior
high students in March. Students had the opportunity to
hear 2 career speakers from 50 different career areas.
The goal was to provide students with a realistic picture of

preparing for the career. We are delighted many
alumni, parents, and community supporters agreed to help
us in this endeavor. Thanks for sharing your time and talent.

Teacher Salaries
We have many talented and dedicated teachers on our
staff who strive to provide the best well-rounded
Catholic education for our students. We continue to try
to provide our teachers with adequate salaries so they
in turn can provide for their families. We can always use
help in continuing to build this fund started by the
generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Beazley in
recognition of Mr. James “Coach” Forjan.

Annual Fund
The money donated to our annual appeal goes to cover
our general operating costs.
Unrestricted bequest—By making an
unrestricted gift of a given sum of money or
other asset, you allow us to apply the funds to
our most pressing needs.
Music Department
This money will help our music department continue to
travel to away football games, participate in
competitions and parades, and will help with the general
upkeep of uniforms and instruments.
Percentage or remainder—You may choose
to leave us a percentage of your estate or the
balance remaining after bequests are
distributed to your other heirs.
Athletic Association
This money will help fund sports programs for YC
students and help provide transportation and officials’
wages.
Trust for spouse—In your will, you may
want to place some or all of the remainder of
your estate in a “QTIP” trust for the benefit of
your spouse. After your spouse’s death, all or
part of the trust remainder will be distributed
to York Catholic.
To make a gift to any of these specific funds, write your
designation on the memo line of your check or enclose a
note in your donation envelope and mail to York
Catholic at the address on the back of Greensleeves. If
you have any questions or need further information,
please call Jennifer at 717-846-8871 x51.
Life income plans—Establish a charitable
remainder trust in your will, which pays an
income to your beneficiaries for life or a term
of years. After that the remainder is given to
York Catholic. Aside from benefiting a
charity, life income plans proved major estate
tax savings.
Mystical Rose Society
Donate $1,000 to York Catholic
during the fiscal year (July 1-June 30)
and your name will be inscribed
on the lobby wall plaque
honoring members of the
Mystical Rose Society.
For more information, contact Jennifer at
717-846-8871 x51.
Memorial fund—You can establish a
permanent memorial fund through your will
and specify how we should forever use the
income. The fund can be established in your
name or in memory of a loved one.
If you have any questions or need further information,
please call Jennifer at 717-846-8871 x51.
