Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School Newsletter 4 th November 2016 Dear Parents/Carers What a week! The sudden departure of Mrs Tyrer took us all by surprise on Monday but we understand it was her only option and pray that life will improve for her in the not too distant future. However, as always, the wonderful staff of Our Lady’s have risen to the challenge and managed to keep as much consistency as possible for the children in years 5 and 6 who have also been a real credit by accepting the situation and continuing to work hard and engage readily in the tasks given to them. Thankfully we have now made arrangements for the rest of this term. All the classes have been busy starting their new topics which has meant much excitement everywhere. Of course bonfires and fireworks have figured greatly in art work and writing this week with some wonderful bonfire party invitations being written and produced in 5/6 and fabulous firework paintings in 3/4. Father Paul celebrated All Saints Mass on Tuesday during which he shared some very interesting facts about our house saints, St Joseph, St Anthony and St Francis. Once again it was lovely that so many parents and friends could attend. Our next Mass will be on December 7th at 9.15am. Father is disappointed that he cannot join us on our Jubilee Year of Mercy Pilgrimage to St Peter’s next Wednesday when we will go through the Holy Door, but came in on Wednesday to hear confessions in preparation for our visit so that we can receive the gift of an indulgence. Unfortunately Mr Agar is no longer available to run the football club after school on Thursdays but will continue to coach the team for matches when possible. He is leaving on a high though as the team won the tournament at Ajax Park on 20th October and he is sure to be there when they go through to the regionals! Mr Coleman from Support Sport will run football club for the rest of this term. We look forward to seeing you all at Parent Evenings next week. Enjoy your weekend Mrs Unitt PRAYER FOR THE WEEK. Let us be renewed by God’s mercy, Let us be loved by Jesus, Let us enable the power of his love to transform our lives too; and let us become agents of this mercy, channels through which God can water the earth, protect all creation and make justice and peace flourish. Pope Francis Congratulations to the Gittus PlPeasePppppp family on the pPPleaseppppp safe arrival of new baby Johnathan David. Learning this week!... What another busy week in Reception! We have been sharing our ideas and talking about ways we can change our classroom round. We have come up with lots of ideas for inside and out and Mrs Elmes is going to be very busy making all these changes for us. In the meantime James has been very busy building this magnificent train. He said it can travel on the rail, on the track and on the road. In Year 5/6 this week we have been learning about Haikus and creating our own. As you can see we are looking carefully at our amazing art work to give us ideas for our poetry writing. After a restful and exciting half term year 3 and 4 have come back refreshed and ready to work. This week we have been celebrating! We went to Mass on Tuesday for All Saints day and participated brilliantly and then we celebrated Bonfire Night on Thursday by writing firework poems including onomatopoeia and similes and we made firework pictures using paint and straws. They were magnificent! In Year 1/2 this week we had great fun learning about bonfire night! We wrote super acrostic poems and created fantastic firework pictures. GOLD AWARDS Golden time was awarded to Reception, for achieving 100% gold cards on their going for gold board. In our “Celebration” assembly the following children received Star of the week certificates. Lily Palliser – Reception for using and applying her phonics. Belle Woods – Year 2 for being so happy and hardworking in her first week at Our Lady’s. Faith Lilly – Year 4 for excellent reading at Mass. Ella Howes – Year 6 for always being happy, hardworking and helpful. Congratulations to you all! PTA My name is Kate Simmonds and I'm the newly elected Chair of the PTA. My son, Louis, attends Our Lady’s in Year 4. The PTA currently has a great team of volunteers who organise various fund raising events throughout the year. However, additional help is always welcome. It would be lovely to see some new faces and share some fresh ideas for fundraising for our children in 2017. The next big event coming up is the Christmas Fayre. This is being held on Friday 2 December 3.45-6pm. Should you wish to offer your help, please email [email protected] or write your details in the volunteer book that is situated in reception. Or alternatively please do come and speak to me on the playground! Many Thanks, Kate School uniform is available via our e mail. [email protected].
