How to Supervise AUSTSWIM
Candidates in your Swim School –
Robyn Larkham, AUSTSWIM Presenter
Adults Learning to Swim –
Natalie Graham
The Fish from Down Under –
Mel Rickwood, Swim School Owner
How do you incorporate your current learn
to swim techniques to the adult world? Adults
outside the pool are successful people in
all paths and ages of life but are they able
to achieve the same results in the water?
This session will give you information and
techniques used to help break down the
mental and physical barriers encountered
when teaching adults to swim while keeping
your students happy, relaxed and wanting to
return week after week while helping them to
achieve their goals. [ADULTS]
Come along and observe some of the little
fish from Aquatics Down Under Swim School
in action. Mel, her team of teachers, students
and parents will be demonstrating some
of the skills that are part of their infant and
preschool program. You will observe the
progressive nature of the skills used as each
group works on the same drill that has been
tailored to their age and ability level. Methods
demonstrated will include backward entries,
roll over swimming, pop up breathing, circular
swimming, entries, exits and mat running. [INF]
Staff! Who needs ‘em…….oh yeah we do.
Do you want the best staff for your business?
Do you have enough staff and a good
relationship with them? This session looks at
ways to get staff, train staff and keep staff.
Come along to Robyn’s session where she will
update you on the changes to the AUSTSWIM
supervised teaching requirements and give
you some ideas on how to produce the best
swim teacher possible – benefiting you, your
facility and the candidates you are supervising.

Aquatic Play V Formal Lessons –
Penny Larsen, AUSTSWIM Presenter
WHS Laws and Solutions –
Pamela Simon, Surf Life Saving NSW
Starts and Turns –
John Bladon, AUSTSWIM Presenter
Using her two children as ‘research rats’,
Penny makes observations of aquatic skill
development through the two different
pathways that her children have experienced;
one through aquatic play, the other through
formal lessons. Comparing her children’s
developmental milestones, experiences
and personalities up to the age of three, this
presentation discusses the outcomes and raises
questions on the industry’s drive to commence
formal lessons at earlier ages. [INF]
Attention Swim School Owners, Managers and
Coordinators – this session is a MUST for you.
John Bladon will outline the basic rules of
starts and turns for all the strokes and answer
questions concerning the strokes and the rules.
Then swimmers will demonstrate turns and
drills to teach and perfect the turns. The drill will
start from the basics, the push and glide and
progress to advanced race skills. [TCS]
What is Work Health and Safety?
Why has the new Act been introduced?
What are the changes with the new Work
Health and Safety legislation?
How do these impact your business?

What do I have to do now?
Pamela will then be joined by Mel Rickwood
who will introduce you to a simple system
that she is currently trialling at Aquatics Down
Under which can accommodate all of your
needs and ensure compliance. [GEN]
