Find the Vertex of a Parabola
To find the vertex (maximum or minimum) of a parabola using the TI graphing calculator:
Press
to enter the equation, using
for the variable.
Adjust the window if necessary to show the vertex.
Press
to access the CALC menu.
Choose option 3: minimum or 4: maximum, depending on your parabola.
When asked “Left Bound?” ensure the cursor is to the left of the vertex and press
When asked “Right Bound?” ensure the cursor is to the right of the vertex and press

When asked “Guess?” you can move the cursor closer to the vertex (but you do not have to) and
press
.
The screen should now say “Minimum” or “Maximum” and display the ordered pair solution.
