WinterPLAY 2016 Brochure | Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo

Welcome to WinterPLAY 2016!
Winter in Wood Buffalo truly ignites a fire within our strong
and resilient community. Our residents have always defied
the fierce elements of the season by embracing their Northern
Spirit, making the most of our snowy months. Our biggest
flame? The annual WinterPLAY
festival, of course!
For its fifth consecutive year,
WinterPLAY honours our region’s
vibrant culture through sports,
recreation, arts and culture. For
three jam-packed days, residents
will bundle up and brave the
cold for a weekend filled with fun
activities for the whole family.
Having all of this year’s festivities
at the beautiful Snye Park makes
our 2016 celebration accessible
and convenient for all to enjoy.
On behalf of Council, I look forward
to seeing all the faces at WinterPLAY, as well as our biggest
WinterPLAYers: the wonderful organizers, volunteers and
community partners that make WinterPLAY possible – thank
you!
Enjoy WinterPLAY!
Sincerely,
Mayor Melissa Blake
Remarks from the
2016 WinterPLAY Committee
This 2016 WinterPLAY Committee has greatly enjoyed
working together to bring the residents of Wood Buffalo a
weekend to remember. We are thrilled to invite you and your
loved ones to experience all the excitement that WinterPLAY
2016 has to offer.
The theme and purpose of the Festival is to allow you to
embrace the winter season through arts, culture, recreation
and sport. As a northern community, Wood Buffalo is steeped
in winter tradition and this heritage on Canada’s frontier has
inspired many elements of WinterPLAY 2016.
As you explore the Festival, try to take in as much as you can,
from the action of Shootout on the Snye to the laughter and
excitement of the Talent Competition. Indulge your sweet
tooth at the Sugar Shack, take an exhilarating dog sled ride
and flex your creativity at the Snow Art Challenge. Above all
else, remember to thank the people who make WinterPLAY
possible: our volunteers, corporate partners and community
partners. Without their Northern Spirit, WinterPLAY could not
be a success.
Bundle up WinterPLAYers, we’ll see you on the Snye!
Sincerely,
2016 WinterPLAY Planning Committee
