Greece gave the world its first great
dramatists, historians, orators, philosophers and
poets. Among the famous people were philosophers

The ancient Greeks prided themselves in
physical fitness. They developed gymnasiums to
practice their favorite sports, which included boxing,
wrestling, racing and throwing the discus and javelin.
From these traditions the Olympic games were
developed. The first games were held in Olympia in
776 BC.
Today Greek families are very closely knit.
The father is the central authority responsible for
making major decisions, the money making and
taking part in local activities. Families are united by
language, religion, and respect for their culture.
