Fahrenheit 451, “Harrison Bergeron”, and Anthem all use a dystopian setting to
establish the conflict for the protagonists. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag, our protagonist,
faces an internal conflict as he is a firefighter who is assigned to burn books, but later
believes he should save books. The setting in which he lives is a future world that prevents
individual thought. He battles against (give example from the book). Likewise, in Anthem,
the futuristic setting causes our protagonist, Equality 7-2521, to feel oppressed with his
present position as a street-sweeper; as a result, he searches for knowledge and finds in

character Harrison Bergeron lives in a society that promotes equality, but violates one’s
individual strengths and talents. Harrison is in jail and “handicapped” because of his
