Adaptations - Glasgow Science Centre

Adaptations
Learning Objective: I can identify, describe and explain the adaptations of Polar Bears and
Camels which help them survive.
Learning Experiences: I can identify and classify examples of living things, past and present, to help
me appreciate their diversity. I can relate physical and behavioural characteristics to their survival or
extinction - SCN 2-01a
This activity introduces your pupils to the physical and behavioural characteristics of Polar Bears
and Camels that help ensure their survival in different climate environments. It gets them to think
about how Polar Bears and Camels are adapted to live in particular climate zones, and invent some
adaptations that would need to happen if they were to survive elsewhere on Earth!
Get your pupils to work in teams and match the cards up to the correct animals below.

Adaptations
What changes would you make to a Polar Bear so that they could survive in a Hot Desert?
What changes would you make to a Camel so they could survive in the Cold Arctic?
Draw your Desert Polar Bear and Arctic Camel below!
