The following food and beverage items listed hereunder are always subject to the nutrient levels as
established within the parameters set in the Nutrient Based Guidelines for Food and Drink Providers.

Healthy fillings or toppings can include one or more of the following: a variety of fresh or frozen vegetables, tuna,
sardines, mackerel, salmon, chicken, turkey, ricotta, baked omelettes and patties, skimmed mozzarella, low/
medium fat cheese, hard boiled eggs, traditional Maltese bigilla, beans and lentils, kunserva (no added salt), low fat
spread, low fat and low salt dressings.

Wholegrain products include those made with wholegrain flour, wholewheat flour, cracked or bulgur wheat, graham
flour, wholegrain corn flour or corn meal, whole oatmeal, whole rye, spelt, quinoa, wholegrain brown rice flour. The
terms ‘multigrain’, ‘stone ground’ and ‘pumpernickel’ do not necessarily mean that the product is wholegrain.

Added sugars include white sugar, brown sugar, raw sugar, sucrose (referred to also as table sugar), glucose, glucose syrup,
corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, corn-syrup solids, malt syrup, maple syrup, pancake syrup, fructose sweetener, liquid
fructose, honey, molasses, invert sugar, anhydrous dextrose, crystal dextrose, hydrolysed starch. The higher up in the list
these ingredients occur, the higher in ‘added sugars’ the product is.

List of Permissible Drinks

Still Water.

Fresh milk or UHT, preferably fresh and local
For Primary and Secondary school pupils containing:
2.5% or less total fats.
(children under 5 years of age should not
consume skimmed milk)

Oat, rice, barley and other cereal drinks with
less than 2.5% total fats, 1.5% saturated fat
and 12% total sugars.

Combinations of milk, yoghurt and fruit with
less than 2.5% total fats, 1.5% saturated fat
and 12% total sugars.

Hot tea - limit sugar intake (for Secondary
school students only).

Iced teas with no added sugar, sweeteners
and artificial flavourings (for Secondary
school students only).

We have a vending machine . Mostly we ask the vendor to fill with water and just a few
snacks. We also have a Catering company who prepares lunches and delivers in hot
cupboards. The food consists mostly of healthy lunches and generally they will always
include vegetables. Individually packed bread and a small desert or fresh fruit are always
included.

Corn Flakes, Special K, Organix products, Ella's Kitchen products. All the above products are
as approved bv the Health Promotion Directorate.

croissants, jogurts, water, flavoured milk, fresh juices. On Tuesdays tuna ftira or ham and
cheese, Wedesdays wraps, pasta salad- Thursdays Toast- Fridays fruit dessert.

Our tuck shop has been operating for ten years and we have gradually transformed it into a
tuck shop which generally provides healthy food, indeed as listed in the permissable items
on the e-mail sent. The tuck shop offers fresh home made tuna and fruit salads, Maltese
bread with tuna, rice salads, nuts, yoghurts and warm freshly baked farinaceous dishes. As
for sweets, we follow the menus given on the HELP document. Drinks are water, milk and
iced teas with no added sugar. Moreover the tuck shop sells snacks such as cereals, snack
bars and pop corn.
