ENTUITIVE IS COLLABORATING
WITH DEVELOPERS, ARCHITECTS
AND BUILDERS TO DESIGN AND
ENGINEER HIGH PERFORMANCE
TALL BUILDINGS THAT ARE
DEFINING CITY SKYLINES
Urban centres around the globe are experiencing unprecedented growth.
With limited land resources, cities are increasingly building towers – both
for commercial and residential developments. Entuitive’s Tall Buildings
team consists of structural engineers, building envelope specialists and
technologists with decades of experience in delivering high-rise buildings
through innovative and value driven solutions.
DELIVERING VALUE
It’s our ambition to help clients realize the best performing
buildings that support their vision and commercial objectives.
Through a holistic, integrated and highly collaborative approach,
we draw on the wide-range of expertise wielded by Entuitive’s
professionals to develop advanced structural and envelope
solutions that deliver multiple dimensions of building performance
with greater life-cycle economies.
OPTIMIZING PERFORMANCE
With extensive experience in tall buildings, deep knowledge of
the latest building materials and construction methods, and
sophisticated modeling techniques, our engineers and building
envelope specialists focusing on solutions that enhance building
performance. We strive to deliver a high degree of occupant
comfort by mitigating the effects of wind-induced vibration. Our
designs consider building resilience to natural and man-made
events including seismic, extreme weather and blast. And we
consistently optimize our structural and envelope solutions with an
eye to improving efficiency at every stage while minimizing costs.
AN ADVANCED APPROACH
We use BIM and the latest technologies to enhance collaboration
and coordination in order to deliver projects on-time and onbudget. We also go beyond BIM and utilize computational design
and parametric modelling to assist architects in unleashing their
creativity while optimizing the building structure – affording greater
constructability, cost-savings and reduced time to market.
CHALLENGING URBAN SITES
SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Urban sites are becoming increasingly
challenging for development when dealing
with issues that include proximity to rail,
transit or aging infrastructure, small site
footprint, adjacency to busy city streets and
existing utilities, and difficult excavation
conditions. We have extensive experience
developing innovative solutions to
overcome these urban challenges with
our multi-disciplinary capability.
Sustainability is a process, not an add-on
– working smartly and efficiently means
minimizing waste and using innovative
materials and technologies, all toward cost
savings for our clients. Our LEED® accredited
staff are committed to a structural and
envelope design process that uses materials
and resources wisely, meeting project
needs with reduced-waste impact on
the environment.

BUILDING HIGHER
Developers and architects continue to push the limits on height – with
buildings that are higher and more slender than ever before. Challenges
associated with building higher include mitigating wind turbulence,
reducing building movement and developing grids that effectively
accommodate mixed-use programs. With decades of high-rise experience,
a deep understanding of materials and construction methods across
various markets, and expertise in advanced modeling we can help ensure
maximum occupant comfort and performance in high-rise developments.

The 58-storey crescent-shaped office tower is the
headquarters of EnCana Corporation and Cenovus Energy
and the second tallest building in Canada. The tower’s
unique shape and building orientation on the site was
dictated by the desire to maximize natural daylight in its
office areas, the three large internal sky lobbies and the
six-storey atrium areas. The tower’s lateral load-resisting
system consists of a series of unique truss tube frames,

At 160 metres tall, 20 Fenchurch consists of a two-storey
lobby and podium, 31 floors of commercial office space,
and the Sky Garden at the top. The design called for
similar east and west façades and distinctive north and
south façades. All façades “swing out” as they rise up.
Vertical mullions at the base all splay to give a wider look
at the top of the building. Vertical sunshades will jut about
three feet out from building’s east and west façades. Given
the sun’s dynamic movement over different seasons,
the sunshades are oriented according to where they are
on the building.

commercial tower features a shield-like vertical slice

distinct presence to Toronto’s downtown skyline. It is
Canada’s largest office tower to receive LEED® Gold
certification for interior construction and design.
To promote maximum distribution of natural light to the
interior of the building, the design called for full-height
glass. The floor plate was built using flat slab construction
with a 4.5-m cantilever, which provided the opportunity to
form the slab with a thin edge that permits glass from
floor to ceiling.
