“Do not therefore, throw away your confidence, for it carries a great
reward.”
(Hebrews 10:35)
Having been privileged to have visited Singapore last week to learn more
about the International Baccalaureate (IB) and more specifically, the
Primary Years Programme (PYP), I return to our shores with a much
greater grasp of the plethora of concepts, attitudes and rigorous
requirements of the international organisation that brings schools
together from the breadth of what is increasingly becoming, our very
small world.
One could even say that I now feel more confident in my PYP
understandings, which was the purpose of my trip. Mind you, there is a
long way to go but I feel my confidence growing each day.
The PYP documentation espouses the development of confident
learners; note the term learner rather than children or students. The IB
quite deliberately uses the term learner as it can easily apply to those of
us blessed to be teaching here at PVCC, those blessed to attend PVCC
as a student and even to parents who have been so richly blessed with
the gift of children. That is, we are all learners; we are all just at different
points along our learning journey. One of my favourite catch phrases is
that when we stop learning, we may as well stop living! Life is a journey
on which we are always learning.

So what do we look for in confident learners?
Confident learners will be willing to try new things; they are willing take a
risk with their learning and not be worried about making a mistake.
Confident learners know their strengths and weaknesses and work
around these; they use the gifts that God has given them. They feel
confident to apply what they have learned into making appropriate
decisions and choices.

We can also be confident and trust that God our creator loves us and
watches over us as we go through every aspect of life. He is our strength
and through Him, we will have the confidence to handle whatever is
thrown at us. Confidence is letting go and letting God.
As we head into another school week and as at the same time, rapidly
approach the end of our first school term for 2014, I encourage everyone
to be confident and to consider adopting the following affirmation as a
positive way of demonstrating confidence.
This week, I will be confident. I will be ready to discover my talents. I will
give my best effort and keep practicing. I will be free of worry, and I
welcome new possibilities whilst trusting that God will support and be with
me all the way. Everything I do, I will do for God. I will let go and let God
– for in letting God, there is great reward.

SECONDARY MUSIC NEWS
Music Matters
House Keeping
We have been blessed over the years with a fantastic intercom system
that allowed direct communication to each classroom in the primary and
secondary school. Instrumental teachers have been ringing students to
remind them that they are expected at their lesson. Students will no
longer be able to rely on intercom or phone calls to remind them of their
lesson times.
We have a number of ways to help our music students in this regard.

Students have their lessons for the term in their books.

We use SEQTA Tutor to timetable lessons which inform class
teachers that your son/daughter has a lesson. Students can now
access SEQTA from home and at school and receive notification
of their lesson times. www.pvcc.vic.edu.au/Portals/studentlinks.
Click on coneqt-s and login.

Timetables can be emailed to families.

Instrumental Teachers’ Timetables are also posted on the
practise room doors for their students to check.

These lesson times are subject to change as we cater for
excursions and events that come up throughout the term and our
teachers work hard to cater for each of their students.
We will continue to assist our younger students, from Prep to Grade 2, as
they will receive a message from the General Office, or will be collected
from class. Grade 3 students have had a number of weeks to learn the
routine, but now are also expected to come to their lessons unassisted.
All other students must be responsible for their attendance as is the
agreed policy.
I would also like to remind you that it is also the students’ and the
parents’ responsibility to inform the instrumental teachers of any
excursions, incursions, events etc. that might clash with an instrumental
lesson. I have and will continue to keep an eye on all upcoming events
and inform the instrumental teachers, however events do slip through on
occasion and students miss out on a lesson. Please assist us in this area
as if students do not attend their lesson, for any reason, without at least
24 hours’ notice and during business hours, that lesson will not be able to
be made up and the fee for that lesson will not be reimbursed.
Please feel free to communicate directly and in a timely manner, with
your instrumental teacher about all things musical. Do not hesitate to
contact me with any questions or concerns.

NEWS FROM SECONDARY SPORT
EISM Div 1 Swimming Carnival Report
On Tuesday 13th March the Plenty Valley
Swimming Team (comprising approx. 50
swimmers from Yrs 7 -12) competed in the EISM
Div 1 Carnival at MSAC in Albert Park. It was a
perfect night and thoroughly enjoyed by all who
attended. This meet is of a high standard for
school competition and 2014 was no exception.
The Plenty Valley swim team had trained well during their early morning
sessions at Diamond Creek Pool and were hoping for some good results.
Jessica Adams from Year 10 was again the stand out swimmer of the
meet breaking the U/15 freestyle, backstroke & butterfly records and also
winning the breaststroke! We wish Jess all the best for the upcoming
National Titles in April.
Other top PVCC performances at Div 1 were:
Morgan Evans (Open Girls) – Morgan won the 50m B/fly, was 2nd in the
50m Free and placed 5th in the 100m Free.
Brieanna Musgrave (Open Girls) – Brieanna finished 2nd in the Open
Girls breaststroke.
Open Girls’ Medley & Freestyle relay teams – finished 2nd & 4th
respectively
(Morgan
Evans/Emily
Collum/Brieanna
Musgrave/Hayley
Wilson)
Plenty Valley finished 8th out of 10 schools
and was 5th in the Girls’ Aggregate (2nd in
U/15 Girls, 3rd in Open Girls)
The next level of swimming competition is
the Champions’ Carnival at MSAC on Monday 24th March.
Twelve Plenty Valley swimmers have been invited to compete at this
event which will comprise the 10 top swimmers/relay teams in each event
from each of the three EISM Divisional Carnivals.
Many thanks to the staff and parents who assisted on the night in a
variety of roles.

Plenty Valley Christian College OSHC
WOW, I can’t believe how fast the year is going by;
we are almost at the end of Term 1 already. We will
soon be starting our Easter activities with the
children.
At the beginning of Term 2, we will be setting up our
Tadpole tank, and the children will be able to watch
them transform into frogs. If anyone has an old glass
fish tank that they are not using and would like to
donate it to after school care, it would be greatly
approached, by other children and staff.
April school holiday program is now open for
bookings. We will be open for the three weeks of the
school holiday excluding the public holidays. We will
be going 10 pin bowling, to see “The Lego Movie”
soap making and much much more.
The program attached is only an outline of what the
children will be doing, for more information on what
activities will be on offer, please drop in and see our
