Options for advance seat reservation in Economy Class on intercontinental flights
With effect from 21 March 2017 (date of ticket issue) Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa will be extending
chargeable advance seat reservation to Economy booking classes Y, B, M, U, H, Q and V on
intercontinental flights. There will also be a charge for advance seat reservations on Economy Class
feeder flights. This also applies to continental feeder flights booked in Economy Class for Premium
Economy Class flights.
Price for advance seat reservation on long-haul flights in all Economy booking classes (Y, B,
M, U, H, Q, V, W, S, T, L and K): 25 euros per segment
Price for advance seat reservation on continental feeder flights: 10 euros per segment
There is already a charge for reserving a seat in advance with SWISS in all Economy booking classes
and on all long-haul routes.
For group travellers, HON Circle Members and Senators, advance seat reservations in Economy
Class are always free of charge on Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa and SWISS intercontinental flights.
Please note: for tickets issued before 21 March 2017, advance seat reservations in booking classes Y,
B, M, U, H, Q and V continue to be free of charge provided that the booking or an existing seat
reservation is not changed.
Seat reservations
Window, aisle or a seat with more legroom on an emergency exit row: Lufthansa offers your customers
the option of choosing their own seats and seats for their travelling companions in advance
themselves. Seat reservations can be made directly during the flight booking or at a later date under
‘My Bookings’ on LH.com.
Lufthansa passengers can, of course, still choose a seat when they check in from 23 hours before
departure online or via their mobile phone – irrespective of the fare booked and without additional cost.
In Economy Class on almost all aircraft types Lufthansa offers seats with more legroom that can be
reserved. These seats are distinguished by having at least 10 centimetres of extra legroom. A number
of these seats are located in the emergency exit rows.
Please note:
Currently seat reservations can only be sold through Amadeus and Travelport. Preparations
are in hand for sales through other GDSs.
Seat reservations are processed through the new IATA-standard Electronic Miscellaneous
Document (EMD-A) which you are already familiar with.
Seat reservations can also be booked via LH.com. This does not apply only to bookings
created in Amadeus but also to bookings made in other GDSs.
A confirmed seat reservation does not represent a legal claim to a certain seat, but only to the
selected category, e.g. aisle or window.
