After you have come up with an answer, you will share with the rest of the group. A) What did Caesar and Augustus do differently? Why would we consider Augustus the first emperor and not Caesar? Do you think this is justified? Why or why not? B) Who were the members of the Second Triumvirate? Was this a stable political institution? Why did it dissolve? How did Octavian end up the sole ruler of the Roman Empire? C) What reforms did Augustus enact? Was he a good politician? What did he claim was the basis of his power and why was this a problem? In your opinion, was his role as head of state a beneficial one for the development of the Roman Empire? D) What do the following terms mean and why are they significant? Princepts, Concordia Ordiuum, Marcus Agrippa, The threat of the East, Actium, Janus, Res Gestae Divi Augusti. Are there any key terms from the lecture that I’ve missed and if so, what are they? 3) Textbook Breakdown (35 mins) This week we cover chapter 8. In PASS, we will break this chapter up between the students in the workshop.
