Summer 2016
Labouré Center

South Boston T.E.A.M. is a one-to-one community-based
mentoring program. We match youth who live in South
Boston and who are between the ages of 8 and 16 with a
caring adult mentor. Matches meet regularly to try new
things, talk about life, and learn together! Because of
T.E.A.M., mentors and mentees are increasing their selfesteem, learning, having fun, and connecting with their
community!

Back to School BBQ!
We had a blast at our annual Back to School BBQ
on Friday, September 23rd! Youth from TEAM and
YTY, along with parents and mentors, gathered at
the Labouré Center to celebrate the beginning of
another awesome school year.
We served up hotdogs, burgers, chips and salsa,
with a desert of ice cream, hot fudge, and
bananas for dipping!
Youth, mentors, and parents participated in board
games, corn hole, an egg toss and the game “Find
the M&M’s in the Whipped Cream!” It was a great
combination of messy and delicious!

South Boston Street Fair!
Lorriane and Abby made an
appearance at the South Boston
Street Fair on Saturday, September
17th. The pair set up alongside the
Catholic Charities table and handed
out flyers to recruit new mentors!
Weekly Drop-In
Drop-In at TEAM continues this year, and we
have some very exciting crafts and activities
planned!
Every Thursday, from 3:30 to 5:30, any TEAM
member is invited to come by the Labouré
Center and see what we have going on!
A.S.A.P. (Anti-Substance Abuse Plan)
The second Thursday of every month (during Drop-In, from 3:30-5:30) will be
dedicated to our Anti-Substance Abuse Plan (A.S.A.P.). Our lesson plans include
educating on and discussing issues from alcohol abuse, tobacco smoking,
marijuana use, as well as the science and psychology behind addiction.
Each lesson will include an informational period, an activity to enhance
understanding, and an open environment for discussion and questions.
Attendees will be given a punch card at the first meeting. For each meeting they
attend, they will be given a “punch” on their card. At the end of the program,
whoever has attended all, or most, of the meetings will receive a $15 gift card!

TEAM Has A New Space!
The TEAM room has moved to the
lower level of the Labouré Center.
The new space is smaller and cozier,
and we still have our fantastic craft
supplies, tables, computers, TV, and
movies!
TEAM and YTY are now next-door
neighbors, and Abby and Lorriane’s
offices are also moving so we will be
closer and easily accessible.
Feel free to stop by and check out
our new digs!
Meet Abby!
Hi everyone! My name is Abby Geluso, and I
am so excited to be the new AmeriCorps
Service Member for South Boston T.E.A.M!
I moved to Boston in March from Grand
Rapids, Michigan, and I am loving the city! I
graduated from Grand Valley State University
in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and
a minor in Writing, (I have a particular
fondness for the American Revolution.)
So far in T.E.A.M. I have assisted with the
Back to School BBQ, the first ASAP meeting,
and several drop-ins. I look forward to
continue to meet everyone at our match
events!
Please feel free to stop by the South Boston
TEAM office and say hello! Especially during
drop-in, every Thursday from 3:30-5:30 pm,
where we can do some fun activities
together!
