Keeping Us Safe and Secure Sparta’s Security Staff Dan Myers, Lead Security, has been at Doherty the past 5 years. He grew up in a small steel mill town in western PA. His favorite high school memory is the entire senior class bailing out of the cafeteria windows on Senior Class Day. One interesting thing people don’t know about him is, one dark and dreary night I floated down into the South China Sea under a silky canopy (You figure it out ). His favorite police, crime related movie or TV show is Dirty Harry. His advice to Spartan students, “Do the best you can now to prepare yourself for the real world.” Ed Graham “Gramps”, Campus Security, is in his 9th year at Doherty. Ed grew up in Missouri and his best high school memory is meeting his future wife. Away from school he enjoys writing poems. His favorite police or crime related show is NCIS. His advice to students is, “never quit or give up.” Kim Gartner, Campus Security, is in her 8th year at Doherty. Kim grew up in Saginaw , Michigan. Her favorite high school memory was in typing class when she and her best friend would unplug each other’s typewriter. One day she went to unplug her friends typewriter and mistakenly unplug the master and the whole class went silent—opps! One interesting thing about her is she loves being a proud grandmother. She has no favorite crime or police show but is hooked on HGTV. Her new goal is to move to the Caribbean in 8 years where she’ll get a beautiful beach house for the money. Her advice to students and parents, “students remember your choices do not just affect you!” Parents, “Hang in there Mom and Dad!” Jodee Mullenax, Campus Security, is in his 7th year at Doherty. She grew up in Colorado Springs and her best high school memory was graduation. One interesting thing about her is that she likes spiders and snakes. She doesn’t really like police and crime shows or movies and would rather watch history and science programs. Her advice to students is, “don’t try to grow up to fast. Enjoy yourself in life.” Scott Patrick, Campus Security, is in his 4th year at Doherty. Scott grew up in Colorado Springs, Denver and Rochester, NY. His best high school memory was setting foot in Doherty the first day it opened as a junior. One interesting thing people don’t know about him is his grandfather was born in 1898 and his grandson was born in 1998. His favorite TV police or crime show is TJ Hooker. His advice to students is, “to take as many electives as possible in high school. Because once you get out of high school you have to pay for the same type of class.” Eddie Olan, Campus Security, is in his first year at Doherty. He grew up in New York and Colorado Springs. His best high school memory was all of it! The one interesting thing he wants people to know is that he’s not as mean as he looks. His favorite police or crime show or movie, The Sopranos. His advice to students is, “Respect each other .” Spartan Indoor Percussion Places 2nd at the RMPA State Championships Congratulations to the DHS Indoor Percussion they went into State at 5th place, finished the prelimary round in 4th place, then jumped to 2nd place after finals! They worked really hard all season and represented Doherty and D11 well. Members include: Steven Sarty, Dylan Olson, Austin Wedemeyer, AJ Eiden, Austin Zanone, Anders Hoglund, Mycole Eversole, Quinton McAllister, Denver Heinz, Sam Clark, Rebecca Bernard, Emily Kitchen, Steven Messamer, Jordan Bettner, John Sample, Kristen Garnhart, Cindy Wells and Kayla Kurkowski Spartan Winter Guard Places 2nd in the RMPA State Championships Participating members include: Jenayah Erman, Lauren LaMonica, Becca Martin, Katie Kupferer, Hannah Hinz, Michelle Patterson, Shelby Holden, Cheyenne Little, McKinzi Johnson, Jillian Siljkovic, Renae Hicks, Chris Kelly, Joey Medina, Cassidy Dowell, Aurora Gutierrez and Lyndsey Martin The Spartan Navy has a Secret Weapon Dawnie Baldo aka “Ms. Dawnie”, is the NJROTC assistant. She is in her first year with the program at Doherty after spending 6 years at Wasson. Her thoughts about Sparta so far are that she feels very welcome here and she appreciates the support shown for the program. Dawnie grew up in Idaho and her best high school memory was learning photography on the school yearbook and newspaper, which lead to a career as a photographer. She has been self-employed since she was 17. Away from work she likes to hunt for fossils and gem stones. Her advice for Spartans is, “You get out what you put in.” ACT TESTING SCHEDULE FOR JUNIORS Wednesday, April 23, 2014 This is a great opportunity for Juniors to take the Colorado State ACT test at no cost and the scores count at most colleges and universities. This test is a part of the Colorado State Assessment Program and all juniors and other third year students in the state will test on the morning of April 23rd.
