SHIREGREEN
COMMUNITY COMMITTEE
Building on the success of Shiregreen Community
Homes and many established voluntary groups
in Shiregreen, a new committee has met for the
first time this summer to talk about how they can
continue to enhance and celebrate the
neighbourhood.
Members of the committee include local residents,
councillors and a member of the Shiregreen Tenant’s and
Residents Association.
The Committee will have a role in working with Sanctuary
Housing to monitor activities of interest to tenants and
residents in the Shiregreen area. The Committee will ensure
that the excellent working relationships achieved through
Shiregreen Community Homes, which has overseen the
regeneration of the neighbourhood, will continue by
functioning as a key link with Sanctuary in monitoring
performance and putting forward ideas for the future.
If you have a topic you would like to talk to the
committee about, or to find out more, call
0800 131 3348/0300 123 3511 or email
[email protected].
The work of the committee will continue to be
communicated with residents both through the
Shiregreen newsletter and shiregreen.net.
group of equally determined pupils from Holgate

Estate’s litter hot spots - Deep Lane.
YOUNG VOLUNTEERS AND
LOCAL RESIDENTS GIVE BACK
TO SHIREGREEN
Shiregreen Community Committee member and
local resident Richard Wilson gives his view on the
latest Shiregreen litter pick.
On a bright September morning, a group of determined residents and councillors, accompanied by Sanctuary Housing
and Sheffield City Council, gathered on Bellhouse Road
armed with grabbers, rubber gloves and black bags ready
to take on the neighbourhood litter. They were joined by a
It looked a daunting site, with empty bottles, used crisp
bags, fast food cartons, old carpets and all forms of
general rubbish scattered, but, with the community spirit
that Shiregreen is well known for; the litter began to give
way as it was picked up, dragged from under bushes and
dropped into black bags. The pile of full black bags grew as
more litter was picked up and Deep Lane became cleaner
and cleaner.
Well done to the community as it rallied round again and
did another fantastic job cleaning up our estate.

Shiregreen litter pick on 2 November or know

SHINE BRIGHT!
A family walk with a difference this winter.
An illuminating spectacular is being planned to
light up a chilly winters evening on the Shire.
Colourful handmade paper lanterns, rousing
music, good food and a great neighbourhood are
the perfect ingredients for Shiregreen’s Winter
Lantern Festival.
In partnership with Sanctuary Housing, Ignite
Imaginations and Activity Sheffield, there will be
a fun filled winters walk starting from Shiregreen
Neighbourhood Centre up to the much loved

Accompanied by music and winter cheer,
residents will proudly display lanterns made by
local schools and groups, to a magical candlelit
path at to enjoy hot food and refreshments at the
church. The event is completely FREE and anyone
can come along and get involved!
Keep a look out for the December date to be
announced very soon.
There will be lantern making workshops running at
local venues around Shiregreen throughout
