KEEPING
FA M ILI ES
CLOSE
For nearly four decades, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver (RMHC) has
been keeping families close at our Houses, and through our Family Rooms and Sky
High Hope Camp. From our beginnings as a grassroots movement established by
a partnership between volunteers and local McDonald’s, the growth and success
locally, nationally and internationally is miraculous.
The reality of having a child sick and in the hospital can be incredibly overwhelming
to parents and siblings. Ronald McDonald House is able to provide these families
a bit of stability in the midst of unthinkable circumstances. Every night, hundreds of
moms, dads, brothers and sisters stay with us in the House, only steps away from the
hospital. Families can make the House their home-away-from-home for as long as their
child is being treated in the hospital.
When a child is hospitalized, the healing power of having family nearby is beyond
measure. It is this heartfelt purpose that both drives and defines RMHC of Denver, the
charity has served thousands of families in their deepest times of need.
We know our success and growth would not have been possible without the vision
of our Founders, the involvement of our community and each gift that has been so
lovingly given. For that, we offer heartfelt thanks for the confidence in our mission,
programs and services and for helping to support our mission of keeping families
close all year long.

I have been on the board of the Ronald
McDonald House since 2012. The impetus
for my involvement is Sky High Hope Camp,
a RMHC program that supports children with
cancer and their siblings. My daughters,
Allison and Emily, have been faithful and
active attendees of the camp since 2008.
As the camp motto goes, “Until there’s a
cure – THERE’S CAMP!” This also accurately
captures my involvement with RMHC. The
staff, at both Sky High Hope Camp and the
houses, are incredibly dedicated to their
mission which is reflected in a well-run and
fiscally responsible nonprofit organization.
Fortunately, my office is directly next to the
Denver House, so I see daily the need for
these houses to support the families in our
community. I can promise no family wants to
use the services of RMHC, but its presence fills
a critical gap for families in a time of great
stress. A great way to get involved in the
house is by simply volunteering; an example
would be kitchen or front desk help.
As the nephew of the Chair Emertia of the
Dallas Ronald McDonald House, the charity
has always been a part of my family and close
to my heart.
When my wife and I started giving of our
time, talent and treasure here in Denver, we
of course chose to support Ronald McDonald
House Charities of Denver. That was nearly 30
years ago and I’ve loved every minute of it. As
an active Board Member, I spend many days
in the House volunteering my time and have
seen first-hand the love, comfort and support
that we provide to families at a very difficult
time in their lives. One never knows if they
might need our services, but all are relieved to
find us when they do.
There are so many ways to be involved here.
During my time, I’ve helped in many areas
including providing handyman services,
chairing the House Operations Committee,
helping to set-up and clean up our annual
fundraising gala and working the grill at a
barbeque cook-off. I’d encourage you to visit
our website or give a House Manager a call
to learn more about how you can be involved.
Like me, I’m sure you won’t regret it!
DENNIS
HU
I became involved with Ronald McDonald
House in 2000 when I went into the House in
Georgia to make a donation on behalf of a
friend for their birthday. A staff member asked
me if I’d like to learn more and the next thing
I knew, I was helping with house maintenance
and then cooking meals and then spending
time with families and other events. I was
hooked!
Since then, I have stayed involved with the
charity as I have moved around the country
in New York and now in Denver, mainly
because the House’s objectives match with my
personal affinity to help families and children.
In addition, all of the people that I have met
and work with associated with the charity are
wonderful people who will be lifelong friends.
A great way to get involved in the House is to
volunteer any amount of time that works for
you. You can cook dinners, help clean up play
areas or just spend some time with families
listening to their stories and providing an outlet
for them to share. At Ronald McDonald House,
there are multiple ways to get involved at
various levels of commitment. Start out small,
think big and tell others.
PEGGI
HUNT
Whether they are here for a day or a year,
our Houses provide vital services to families
for whom Denver’s world-class children’s
hospitals are a godsend. That’s why I have
given time to Ronald McDonald House for
more than 20 years. It is an honor and a
thrill to see how my work with our Houses
support families when they need it the most.
While our Houses support families who
travel to our world-class hospitals, Ronald
McDonald House Charities of Denver
also serves local children through our
medical and dental CareMobiles, by
providing scholarships to area teens, and
by conducting a summer camp for cancer
patients and their siblings.

Volunteers
Whether cooking, cleaning, working the
front desk or just visiting with families,
our volunteers make all the difference to
us. By dedicating their time and talents,
these volunteers help to offset our costs
– meaning donations can go directly to
keeping our families close. To all of these
generous individuals we say thank you
for helping keep our doors open to the
families we serve.

The 2016 Storybook Ball
Raising Money & Awareness to Keep Families Close
Ronald McDonald House supporters who attended this fun Lady and the
Tramp-themed event enjoyed a night of dinner, dancing and raising money for
Ronald McDonald House.
As guests arrived at the Sheraton Denver Downtown, they were transported
into the pages of the well-known storybook with a silent auction staged in an
area reminiscent of an outdoor market in Italy. They shopped and sipped
on cocktails courtesy of Tito’s Handmade
Vodka, beer from Lagunitas Brewing Co.
and wine donated by Magnolia Hotel.
A delicious Italian dinner was served in
the ballroom which had been transformed
into Tony’s Restaurant, a replica of the
favorite dining spot of Lady and The
Tramp. After, a live auction full of hard-toget items like a Los Angeles trip featuring
tickets to The Ellen DeGeneres show and
seats in a luxury box for a Denver Broncos
game, helped raise over $170,000. Local
comedian Kevin Fitzgerald provided the
hilarious entertainment – a fitting end to a
night of fun!

Sky High Hope Camp offers children with cancer
and their siblings the opportunity to connect with
others who are facing similar challenges, and
renew a sense of hope while spending a week in
the beautiful Rocky Mountains. With the support
of an amazing staff, we help these kids build
courage, self- esteem and independence, while
experiencing a sense of belonging in a healing,
medically safe environment.
Each year, we rely on the expertise and talents of
nearly 75 volunteers from all over the world, who
deliver high quality, outcome-driven programs like
archery, fishing, whitewater rafting and more. The
camp is no cost to our campers and is funded by

A Second Home
The on-going care of a critically ill child can often mean return trips to Denver
for follow-up hospital visits. Families who come back to Ronald McDonald House
for a repeat stay during those visits, say it feels like coming home.
We were at the Denver house for our second time. They are AWESOME. Don’t
know what we would have done without them. I pray that someday I can donate
big to them. God Bless them and all of their donors.
– The Gregory Family
I have been fortunate enough to stay twice and it is incredible. It truly is a home
away from home. We loved the wonderful volunteers and groups came in and
cooked meals for the entire house. Thank you Ronald McDonald House and
those who took their time to help others on need.
– The Dominguez Family
We have made it to our home away from home, Ronald McDonald House. The
amount of kindness in this place makes my heart feel so warm every time I step
foot in here.

Scholarship Program
RMHC Scholarship Programs are designed to provide financial
assistance to eligible graduating high school seniors who face limited
access to educational and career opportunities. Scholarships are
awarded by local Chapters of Ronald McDonald House Charities
(RMHC), with support from RMHC Global and McDonald’s Corporation.
This program allows us the opportunity to say to these young adults,
“we believe in you and your future.” We know that a number of these
students wouldn’t have the chance to go to college if it weren’t for the
support they’re receiving from these scholarships.
Since 1985, more than $60 million in scholarships have been awarded.
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for this
scholarship:
• Must be a current high school
senior who is eligible to attend
a two or four year college,
university or vocational/
technical school.
• Must be a legal U.S. resident.
• Must be less than 21
years of age.
• Must have a minimum 2.7
GPA.
• Must reside within the
geographic boundaries of a
participating Chapter.

Community Sponsored Events
This year we had the good fortune of having been chosen as the charity of choice
for several fundraisers hosted by our community partners. Campaigns and events
like these help to raise both money and awareness for our charity. We couldn’t be
more grateful to these groups for helping donors find ways to make doing good
feel even better:
MCDONALD’S
GEOTECH
When patrons drop their change in
the collection canisters located on the
counters of McDonald’s restaurants,
they’re doing much to support Ronald
McDonald House. Small change really
does add up! McDonald’s also supports
the Houses with additional fundraisers,
such as the Give-A-Hand campaign,
throughout the year.
For many years, our friends at
GeoTech have been raising funds
for RMHC by hosting a Charity Golf
Tournament. They did it again this
year and, as always, the event was
a sell-out!
TADDONIO FAMILY FOUNDATION
The annual Ronald McDonald House Golf Classic, a double shotgun held at
Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, CO, was a success once again! Every year, the
hardworking crew at the Taddonio Family Foundation plans, sells and executes
this fun event on our behalf. You won’t want to miss the 2017 event. Look for
details at taddoniofamilyfoundation.org.
DILLARD’S
Ronald McDonald House benefits
from the sale of special edition
Southern Living Cookbooks, sold
during the Holidays at local Dillard’s
stores.
RAM RACING
RAM Racing’s Hot Chocolate Series
is one of the fastest-growing running
series in the county. The 15k/5k
Run/Walk is widely regarded for
its award-winning goodie bags.
Proceeds from the annual race in Denver benefit
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Denver.
FORTRUST
In addition to their annual in-kind donation
of web hosting services, Fortrust made us cobeneficiary of their first annual “Champions
for Children” golf tournament. A fun day for a
great cause!
KUNI HONDA
Not once, but twice in 2016, the kind folks
at Kuni Honda/Land Rover Denver ran a
promotion during which a portion of proceeds
from every vehicle sold was donated to Ronald
McDonald House.

Radiothon &
Light The Houses
The Denver Ronald McDonald House was hoppin’ on December 1
as we took to the airwaves to share our message for 12-hours during
our annual Ronald McDonald House/KOSI 101.1 radiothon. This
fundraising event provided the opportunity for listeners across the metro
area to learn about the House straight from our families (the group that
tells our story best) and to call in and pledge their support.
The day, filled with laughter, tears, wonder and amazement, raised
$363,000 for the families of Ronald McDonald House.
Many thanks to dedicated staff of on-air and behind the scenes workers
from KOSI, the cadre of volunteers who worked that day, and to these
sponsors, without whom the day couldn’t have been a success:

Family Rooms
Our Family Rooms help keep families
close within the Hospital
Research tells us that having family within the hospital
helps sick children heal and cope better. For those
families, we offer our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms.
Located within three area hospitals, the Family Rooms
provide a place for families to rest and regroup just steps
away from their sick child.
The Family Rooms offer:
• A kitchen area including a microwave & coffee maker
• Shower facilities
• Laundry facilities
• A seating area with a television
Volunteer hosts are always needed in the Family Rooms.

Neighborly Love
Whether traveling across mountains or
plains, nearly half of the families who
stay with us are from outlying area of
Colorado. Whatever their prognosis,
these families are forever bonded by
the reality of being away from home
with a hospitalized child. Home may
look very different to them – a cottage
in a ski town versus a ranch home in a
rural area – but, within our walls, these
families often discover true friendship.
They are neighbors now and forever.
And, as the saying goes, a good
neighbor is a priceless treasure.
