Dear Roz :
Earl and I are having a
wonderful rest for a few days
here at Freeport in the
Bahamas. This island is a
perfect blend of Old World
tradition and New World
excitement. It' s foreign , it' s
. friendly, it 's fascinating.
There's skin-diving in water
as pure as emeralds, and
miles of powdered golden
sand. Luxurious hotels , fine
restaurants , intimate
cocktail lounges , native night
clubs, elegant casinos and
suberb golf and tennis.
• We won at the casino,
which was a great thrill. We
also saw Carol Newell from
Brightwaters , who works
here and send regards. We
shopped at the International
Bazaar with its array of gifts
from all over the world .
Rates for the winter season
are most attractive , starting
at $111.00 each based on
double occupancy, including
2 meals, airport ransfers and
room with bath. The $115.00
air fare permits a stopover in
Nassau , cosmopolitan capitol
of the Bahamas.
Nassau is ready to cater to
your
every
wish--with
sightseeing in horse drawn
surreys ,
shopping
for
bargains on Bay St., night
. clubbing to native music ,
swimming, water skiing, skin
diving ! The casino on
Paradise Island , just across '
the bridge is really hopping,
and the hotels offer new
accomodations , beautiful
beaches with crystal clear
water. All the hotels plan
entertainment to keep guests
busy day and night. Winter
rates for a week start at
. $107.00 each , and go to $282.00
at the "plushest" hotels for a
weeks dreamy vacation
which includes room with
bath , 2 meals, much sightseeing and transfers.
On our way down we had a
short stay at Eleuthera , the
first republic in the New
World , settled in 1648 by the
Eleuthera Adventurers. In
Greek Eleuthera means
"free", and that' s the way of
life on this Bahamian
hideaway where you can fish ,
sail, swim and scuba-dive.
There are no headlines herejust 20th century comforts at
. a few beautiful hotels in a
tranquil and unspoiled setting. Rates for 3 nights range
from $84.00 each to S108.00
including room with bath ,
and 2 meals. Many of the
hotels add 10 per cent to your bill in lieu of tipping, a fine
European custom.
; See you soon.
Love,
Yvonne

We had only about 75 members
at our Dec. 6 social which was
due to the fact that most of our
regular "party goers" left the
day before on the Florida tri p. In
the absence of our regular piano
players, Sylvia Deus played the
piano with our band , which
consisted of Ernie Laurn on the
violin; Leslie Martin , Guitar and
Jerry Kavanagh , drums.
I think you will all be glad to
know that we had two guards and
a trained police dog from the K-9
Corps guarding the parking area
and had no problems and we are
promised this protection from
now on.
At our Dec. 9 meeting we
welcomed the following new
members into our club: Bruno
Krieger and Charlotte Krieger ,
Islip Terrace; Geo. Faulhaber .
East Islip and Otto F. Soderlund .
Brentwood .
