OUR THOUGHT OF THE WEEK IS... Birthday: Dillon

24th June 2016
Dear Parents / Carers,
Thank you to everyone who wore their mufti clothes in return for lucky dip prizes today. Remember next Friday is another
mufti day for sweet tombola prizes, followed by the final mufti day on Friday 8 th July (fayre day) for cakes.
This week was the last week for Golden Tickets for this term – I have really enjoyed spending time with all the children this
year hearing about their learning and how much they enjoy their time at Brading, and I am looking forward to getting
together with the children for Golden Tickets in September!
Australasia and Asia class have both had visits to the two abbeys on the Island this week; Asia class visited the Quarr Abbey
on Monday while Australasia took a trip to St. Cecilia’s Abbey on Tuesday. The children were all extremely interested to find
out about the life of nuns and monks, and they thought of some excellent questions to ask beforehand. Asia class had a
good look around the grounds of Quarr Abbey and got to experience a service with the monks during the afternoon which I
hear was fantastic. They also got to visit the onsite pigs which they loved! Australasia class spent some time with the nuns
on Tuesday and they told them all about how they pray and use the rosary. They had a chance to pray with them and found
out that they pray for at least six hours each day, and that each time they pray they say over 50 Hail Mary's and think about
the life of Jesus. As well as this, they also found out that the nuns only eat chocolate on Saturdays and are not allowed to eat
in between meals! I have heard fantastic reports from each trip, especially on how fantastic the behaviour of the children
was. Well done to all, and a big thank you to Mrs Wheeler and Mrs Wootton for arranging another fantastic, educational
trip.
Next week the year 6’s will be out from Monday to Wednesday for their trips to Tackt Isle, London and Firestone Copse.
Please make sure you read the itinerary Mrs Boakes sent out as it contains all the information you will need to know for the 3
trips. Their trips will be followed by two intake days at Sandown Bay Academy, Ryde Academy and Medina College on
Thursday 30th June and Friday 1st July. The children will have to make their own travel arrangements to and from the schools
on both days as we are not providing transport for them.
Also next week, the children in Key Stage 2 will be joined by the school nurse on Wednesday afternoon for a talk regarding
sex education, talking to them about the changing body, puberty, hygiene etc. If you do not wish for your child to be
involved in this, please contact the office on 407217 or email [email protected]. The school nurse has kindly
shared her information PowerPoint with us which we are able to pass on to parents/carers that gives an overview on what
the school nurses will be teaching the children and the resources they will be using. If you would like a copy of this please
speak to Miss Hughes in the office.
I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend. Please remember my door is always open.
Mrs Gilbert.
