Sue Chen has been coaching in Potomac Valley swimming since 1993. Mrs. Chen brings more than
twenty years of experience coaching swimmers across all age groups on the national stage.
Sue was a member of the US National coaching staff for the Youth National Team in Vancouver,
NCSA All-American team in Dublin, Ireland, and the World Youth Games in Lima Peru.
Throughout her career, she has developed swimmers into Olympic Trial finalist, US National Qualifiers, Junior National qualifiers, Sectionals, and age group champions. She has coached more
than 300 US National Top 16 rankings, including many number 1 rankings. She is the coach on
record for Jack Conger, the current National Age Group record holder in the 17-18 100 back (short
course yards and the long course meters) and independent High School national record holder in
the 500 free and 100 free.
Besides coaching club swimmers, Chen is co-owner of the iSwim Clinic, LLC which teaches kids
proper stroke mechanics through video analysis. She credits her success to her three boys and her
incredible husband of 26 years for their support throughout her career.
Just a few other of Sue’s accomplishments include: Current American Record holder in 200 fly,
2015 National Junior Camp - Assistant coach, 2013-14 USA National Coach, 2013-14 Head CoachWomen's National Select Camp, 2011-Assistant coach Junior World Championships, Lima Peru.
Sue is a member of the Women's Leadership program for USA Swimming. This program is to help
women coaches at every level become successful in coaching and in life.
