Hilti solutions for engineers and designers Plumbing, mechanical and electrical installations When your business calls for the best. Hilti. Outperform. Outlast. Applications and systems The freedom to choose applications at all levels. Channel installation systems The MQ Grid system, which is fully compatible with the new Hilti HAC anchor channel, represents planning freedom of the highest order. The system, tested and approved according to RAL–GZ 655, brings together an entire building’s utilities into a well-organized, firestop-tested and optically-pleasing platform. The flexible Hilti MM installation system has been optimized for use with the most common light- and mediumweight applications, while we recommend Hilti MI for the medium- and heavy load segments. Especially developed for use in an industrial environment, Hilti MI fastens pipes up to 600 mm in diameter with great reliability, and without welding. Securely anchored Hilti also has what is likely the most comprehensive product program on the market when it comes to fastening on concrete. This includes a large assortment of mechanical anchors as well as numerous chemical heavy-duty anchors that are suitable for practically any fastening application. Technologies of the highest order. Products you can rely on. Firestop components from Hilti’s CP 680 series provide fire-resistant pipe penetrations, for pipes of various materials and diameters, in new construction. Current seismic design standards in the US. The American building code, IBC 2009, references the design provisions issued by the American Concrete Institute (ACI) in ACI 318-08, Appendix D, which provides methods to calculate the design capacities of anchorages under seismic conditions according to the strength design methodology (ultimate limit states). These provisions apply to structures located in medium to high seismic zones (Seismic Design Categories (SDC) C, D, E, or F), where the concrete base material shall be assumed to be cracked unless otherwise demonstrated. Post-installed anchors designed using the methods in ACI 318-08, Appendix D, must be pre-qualified by extensive testing under ACI 355.2. The International Code Council (ICC) Evaluation Service provides a path to prequalification through acceptance criteria AC 193 for mechanical anchors and AC 308 for chemical anchors. These criteria define the testing methods and assessment procedures to develop design parameters compliant with Appendix D. Specific product characteristics as well as material safety factors can be found in the Evaluation Service Report (ESR) issued by ICC, which enable the determination of the product resistances such as concrete breakout, pull-out, tensile and shear steel capacities. ICC-ES evaluation service reports and acceptance criteria can be found at www.icc-es.org Inelastic (plastic hinge) Elastic Anchorage in locations in a structure expected to undergo inelastic deformation (so-called plastic hinges) is beyond the scope of Appendix D due to a higher intensity of cracking and spalling. Additional tests under cyclic loads on anchors located in cracks are performed. The third party assessment leads to an ICC-ES report in which the anchor resistance data are reported. These data include specific capacities for seismic loads. In the European landscape of design standards, provisions for seismic design of post-installed anchors in concrete are given in Part 1 of CEN/TS 1992-4:2009 “Design of fasteners for use in concrete”. The Eurocode 8 (EN 1998-1:2004) covers the loads acting on buildings and civil engineering structures in seismic regions and needs to be taken into account together with the Eurocode 1 (EN 1991-1-6:2005) in all seismic zones except in cases of very low seismicity1. However, currently there are no pre-qualification criteria for post-installed anchors under seismic loading within the European Technical Approval Guidelines, which implies that post-installed anchors under seismic conditions are not yet Resistance data are used with the strength design methodology according to ACI 318-08, Appendix D. Using engineering judgement, the resistance can be compared with loads determined from European codes. covered by a European Technical Approval. As a result, in present day it is not possible to perform seismic design of anchors within the European code and regulation framework. Nevertheless, one may apply engineering judgement by referring consistently to the resistances determined according to ACI 318-08, Appendix D, on the basis of the ICC-ES reports and comparing them with the loads defined according with EN 1998-1:2004 and EN 1991-1-6:2005. 1 exception see EN 1998-1:2004, Section 3.2.1 (5) 6 7 Technical documentation If needed, Hilti can provide you with a virtually complete selection of technical documentation and information – registered users can download many of them at no cost at Hilti Online: • National and international approvals • Inspection certificates • Conformity and compliance certificates • Test reports • Measuring and selection assistance • Safety data sheets • Tender text templates • Technical data sheets • Reference projects • Technical articles • 2D and 3D CAD anchor details Hilti PROFIS – Solid performance The leading technology deployed in Hilti PROFIS Design Software Suite can be downloaded at no cost on Hilti Online. Le Havre, France To meet increasing safety demands Hilti’s firestop systems offer a series of additional advantages for building owners, planners and users. In addition to withstanding the actual fire testing, many firestop products pass additional tests, such as those measuring acoustic insulation, smoke and gastightness, seismic, chemical resistance and others. The decisive moment. It usually takes decades. Added reliability through expertise and approvals. That is what drives us: durable fastening solutions that you can count on. Based on our decades-long experience in projects around the globe. Hilti’s calculation methods and products are a synonym for reliability and safety. This is one reason why Hilti is a leader in acquiring both international and national approvals and test reports – true to our brand promise: Hilti. Outlast. Outperform. 8 Good to know. Having 163 floors available for use, the Burj Khalifa, in the United Arab Emirates, is the tallest building in the world. It is outfitted with Hilti firestop products. The challenge our field engineers faced was to close all joints between the floor decks and the curtain walls. The agent used had to absorb temperature- and wind-generated façade distortions as well as provide protection against flames, smoke, gas and noise. Hilti CP 672 firestop joint spray was largely used to reliably close all joints between the deck and the curtain walls and for wall-to-floor and walltofloor joints. The quick and simple application saves significant time during construction. For the small gaps in the tallest building in the world: Hilti CP 672 firestop joint spray. 9 Research and development Most modern testing methods for maximum reliability. The test professionals The Hilti research and development laboratories can perform all standard industry tests as well as special tests such as: • Static load, fatigue, shock, elevated temperature, fire resistance and seismic tests • Testing of a vast range of Hilti firestop products • Assessments of environmental protection requirements in our corrosion laboratories • Test programs set up for specific applications and bespoke solutions Green Building It’s only natural that Hilti would want to keep the effects of our products and services on the environment as limited as possible. Energy efficiency stretches from the planning phase through construction and includes decadeslong usage of the object. This is why a rapidly growing number of Hilti products and services meet the requirements for certain worldwide green building criteria, such as BREEAM, HQE, DGNB and LEED. At the heart of proficiency. Testing, learning, knowledge. Where advances are made. Hilti operates its own research, development and testing centers in Europe, the USA and China. Certifications and findings of both current and future-oriented technologies therefore come from our internal test labs that have been accredited by independent institutions. The labs are utilized by numerous international specialists and universities. Results stemming from this unique combination of know-how and experience flow into thoroughly new design methods, applications and products. 10 Good to know. Fire and smoke rank high among the potential hazards for human lives. One important component for the safety of a building and its occupants has traditionally been one of the biggest weaknesses: professional compartmental fire stopping. Building owners, architects, planners, contractors and developers are nonetheless legally obligated to seal fire-rated walls and decks. Hilti provides firestop products that are approved for usage worldwide and have been extensively tested for fire resistance duration, smoke tightness and temperature excess. To meet additional modern building construction requirements Hilti also conducts acoustic measurements, seismic tests and chemical resistance tests on its firestop products. 11 Hilti. Outperform.
