Dear colleagues:
Only a few days after the end of the Summit of the United Nations on Sustainable
Development 2015, the Research Station Indio Hatuey, science and technology organization
of the University of Matanzas, launches its call for the reception of works and the participation
in the 4th International Convention AGRODESARROLLO 2016, which will take place from
October 23 to 30, 2016, in Varadero beach, Cuba. The Convention includes pre-event tour
(October 23-24), scientific event (October 25-27) and post-event course (October 28-30).
The main purpose of our event is that the works are in agreement with the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDG) and the Post-2015 Agenda which were approved in that Summit,
representing a thematic enlargement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) with
deadline for year 2015, but with higher emphasis on the environmental concerns and the
economic growth.
Aunque la principal preocupación de la Agenda para el Desarrollo Post-2015 es la extinción
de la pobreza masiva, la agenda considera otros objetivos y metas para lograr un desarrollo
sostenible a largo plazo, entre los que destacan:
1. Defeat hunger: achieve food security and adequate nutrition for all, and promote a sustainable
agriculture model.
2. Promote strong, inclusive and sustainable development, and decent work for all.
3. Ensure access to affordable, sustainable, reliable and modern energy services for all.
4. Achieve gender equality and empower women and girls throughout the world.
5. Promote a sustainable consumption and production model.
6. Promote actions at all levels to face the climate change.
7. Enhance and improve the execution means and world partnership for sustainable
development.
8. Protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems and halt all biodiversity loss.
In this sense, the Organizing Committee of the event proposes the following work topics in its
different workshops, all led by a central idea “AGROENERGY AS BASIS OF SUSTAINABLE
AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT”
TOPICS
1. Agroenergy, climate change and food sovereignty.
2. Integrated agroecological systems for food and energy production.
3. Sustainable rural development and family agriculture for human welfare.
4. Gender equity and inclusion in agriculture.
5. Agricultural production with emphasis on the use of livestock production agroforestry systems.
6. Sustainable management of lands of agricultural and livestock production use.
7. Local agricultural innovation and extension work on agroecological bases.
8. Agroecological practices for animal and plant health.
