As part of the Air Force Anniversary
Ball, the Wright Memorial Chapter
presents three major awards for
outstanding community and Air
Force contributions.
T
he Ambassador Award recognizes an individual who has been an effective ambassador for
the Dayton/Miami Valley Community in the areas
of economic development, military and Air Force
support - particularly for WPAFB - and for political
achievements. This year’s recipient is John “JP”
Nauseef, President and CEO of the Dayton
Development Coalition. An enthusiastic supporter of
AFA and the United States Air Force, JP is an
engaged, recognized leader in the region’s highly
visible support of Wright-Patterson AFB. Through
the leadership of JP and the Coalition, the Miami
Valley gained or retained more than 1,000 WPAFB
jobs and more than 3,500 new jobs in private industry in 2005. JP continues to serve in the AF Reserve,
as well as on the boards of numerous community
organizations. He hosted a radio show that highlighted the activities of Wright-Patterson and leads an
annual visit to Washington DC to present prioritized
funding requests to the Pentagon and Congress.
The Heritage Award recognizes the Air Force
individual who has left a significant impact on the
military aerospace community at Wright Patterson
AFB. The 2006 recipient is John Nowak, Lt Gen (ret),
and CEO of LOGTEC, Inc. A long-time leader in the
Dayton and Miami Valley community and supporter
of Wright-Patterson AFB, John chaired the Dayton
Development Coalition’s Wright-Patt 2010/Base
Realignment and Closure committee from 2002-04,
and co-chaired the committee in 2005, contributing
substantially to the retention of thousands of local
jobs. John unselfishly serves on numerous Boards of
Directors, advises many professional and business
organizations and has received numerous personal
recognitions and awards for community contributions
and leadership. Before joining LOGTEC, Mr Nowak

SPONSORS
MAKE IT HAPPEN!
• And many more programs too numerous to list
here.
O
n behalf of the members of the Wright Memorial
Chapter, I cannot even begin to express our deep
appreciation of the outstanding support of our
Program Sponsors.
The Bottom Line: your sponsorship really counts!
Now is the time to start planning for next year,
I encourage your corporate generosity so we can
continue to grow as one of the nation’s finest AFA
Chapters.
Sponsorship implies a commonality – a family spirit
– with the mission of the Air Force Association.
Sponsorship means much more than attending
the Dayton Airshow at the most active Chalet on
the show line; much more than attending a 1st Class
Air Force Ball in celebration of the achievement
and service of our brothers and sisters committed to
service of their country; much more than a social golf
outing to relax and mingle with the Air Force and
community leaders.
Sponsorship means that you, through your AFA
Chapter, can provide:
• More than $3,000 for awards in recognition of
achievement and service
• $1,500 to support and motivate the cadets of the
Civil Air Patrol
• $5,000 to help support our National Museum of the
United States Air Force
• $7,000 to Culture Works to help maintain
Community/WPAFB relationships and to promote
a high quality of life in our community.
Congratulations to the following “new
member” raffle winners!

than $93,000.

AFA Celebrates Air Show In Style
to show our support. In addition the Star Sponsors
are able to identify additional base personnel to
receive an invitation to the chalets as well.
O
n both Saturday, July 29 and Sunday July 30
over 80,000 people attended the Dayton / Vectren
air show. While with out a doubt these fans surely
enjoyed this year’s air show, even with the extreme
heat, an invited number had the opportunity to enjoy
the show as guests of the AFA Wright Memorial
Chapter in the comfort of its air-conditioned chalets.
Of the many WPAFB leadership (both military and
civilian) personnel who were in attendance the AFA
was extremely please to host General (AFMC/CC)
and Ms. Carlson, Lt Gen (AFMC/CV) and Mr.
Gabreski, and Lt Gen Hudson (ASC/CC).
Under the leadership of Jim Heitz and Al Schoolcraft,
and with the generous support of our corporate Star
Sponsors (see related article) the WMC was able to
provide 4 air conditioned chalets right next to the
flight line for the enjoyment of our Wright Patterson
AFB guests. Over the two days we hosted 2000
people at the chalets. While at the chalets, our guest
were able to enjoy a first class view, food, drinks, and
air conditioning as they took in the show. The AFA
Wright Memorial Chapter annually hosts this event,
and invites the base senior leadership to the chalets
While many people may remember the extreme
temperatures this year, few will be able to forget the
awesome show that was put on by the air show.
Beginning with the Misty Blues all female parachute
team salute to the National Anthem and moving on
to the inspiring opening flight of Dayton’s own 1911
Wright B Flyer, flying at a unbelievable 40 MPH, and
finishing with the always impressive Navy Blue
Angels -- this year’s show was nothing but first class.
