Team Building Principles for Church, Home, Work and School
(Be Kind … Be Compassionate … Be Patient … Be Respectful … Be Diligent)
BE DILIGENT
Proverbs 21:5—The plans of the diligent lead to profit.
Proverbs 13:4—The desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
BIBLICAL DEFINITION:
DILIGENT—To be alert, determined or eager. From a root word meaning sharp or pointed.
WEBSTER’S DEFINITION: DILIGENT—Persevering and careful, hardworking.
BIBLICAL EXAMPLE OF BEING DILIGENT:
Background Information—When Babylon captured Jerusalem, King Nebuchadnezzar took some Israelites,
young men from nobility, back to Babylon to be trained to serve in the king’s palace. Daniel was one of these young
men. Daniel served Nebuchadnezzar and later Nebuchadnezzar’s son, Belshazzar. Later Darius the Mede killed
Belshazzar in a night raid and took over the kingdom. Here is what Darius did:
Daniel 6:1-3— It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, with three
administrators over them, one of whom was Daniel. The satraps were made accountable to them so that the king
might not suffer loss. Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his
exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.
Here is what happened next:
Daniel 6:4— At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in
his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he
was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.
Note: Because Daniel was diligent in his duties, those who were jealous and envious could find nothing
wrong in the way he performed his job.
