Campus Decompression
• Master Facility Plan based on “best use” of our limited campus areas zoned by City of TC as H1 and H2 • Facility planning built around “decompression”‐
whenever possible moving facilities/services off campus
‐ Continued development of MCHC and Copper Ridge sites as primary locations for Munson Outpatient Services ‐ Relocation of support service offices (Information Systems, Accounting, Finance) to Copper Ridge – approx. 220 employees)
Campus Decompression
• Partnered with TART, BATA, and employees to encourage “Smart Commuting,” seen increase in bicycle, pedestrian, carpool, and transit use by employees
• ~35,000 sq ft of properties have been purchased and demolished
‐ Credit union, four doctors’ offices, three office buildings
‐ During construction phase (2014 – 2016), another ~30,000 sq ft
are planned to be removed • doctors office
• two medical buildings
• office building Kid’s Creek
• Nearly all preliminary steps in place for creek diversion to take place on September 27
‐ Invitations to the Kid’s Creek Celebration will arrive mid‐September
• Timing was chosen to allow vegetation to become established while still preceding the spawning season
• The restored creek will offer improved fish passage and enhanced wildlife and aquatic habitat
Kid’s Creek
• Part of a larger effort by The Watershed Center and Grand Traverse Conservation District to remove Kid’s Creek from the Michigan DEQ’s “Impaired Waters” list
• Funding has been provided through the generosity of the Consumers Energy Foundation, EPA’s Great Lakes Restoration Initiative Program, Great Lakes Fishery Trust, and Rotary Charities of Traverse City
Building 29
• Right‐placing – as part of office building demolition, staff will be relocated to Building 29 this fall
Cowell Family Cancer Center
Cowell Family Cancer Center
• Schematic design completed ‐ 86,000 sq ft
facility including floor plans
• Next steps: ‐ Review with the Traverse City Planning Commission
‐ Refine the design – this fall
‐ Bid out project and start construction ‐ spring of 2014
• Fundraising ‐ $1.5 million left to raise
Cowell Family Cancer Center Design
Preliminary concept – 08/2013
Traffic Study
• August 2013 ‐ “Traffic Impact Study” submitted to the City of Traverse City Planning Department • Scope of study determined at October 2012 meeting with City of TC Planning and Engineering • Munson Medical Center and neighbors have shared concerns regarding the issue of traffic (volume, cut‐thru, speeding) • Traffic volume impacts neighborhood quality of life and ability of patients to access services
• Important as nearly 1 million sq ft
of buildings are brought “on‐line” to the south as part of the Grand Traverse Commons redevelopment
Traffic Study
• The results:
‐ Demolition of 13 buildings reduced peak hour trips
• 97 Morning • 128 Afternoon ‐ Cowell Family Cancer Center will generate peak hour trips
• 46 Morning • 92 Afternoon ‐ Net effect of demolition and
construction ‐ reduction in traffic
in the study area
