1 day per week (increasing according to demand prior to & availability the whole week prior to & of the conference)
1. PURPOSE:
TEAR Australia’s mission statement includes the following purpose:
To inform, challenge and empower Australian Christians to make biblically-shaped
responses to poverty and injustice.
The Justice Conference is proudly run by TEAR Australia and is part of the organisations
commitment to the aforementioned mission statement. The Justice Conference exists to
inform and engage Australian Christians on the theology of justice, how it is central to the
gospel and relevant to our modern world.
The Volunteer Manager role has been created to develop volunteer roles, advertise and
recruit for these roles as well as coordinating and managing volunteers in the lead up to and
at The Justice Conference. The Justice Conference relies greatly on it’s volunteer support
and sees the development and management of these relationships as vital.
2. CONTEXT:
This volunteer role helps work towards the accomplishment of the Australian Program Team
Strategic Plan and more specifically The Justice Conference.

4. SUPPORT PROVIDED:
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with The Justice Conference team to establish
and develop volunteer roles
Advertise the roles and manage applications
Interview candidates (where necessary)
Prior to the conference communicate information,
answer queries and provide support to volunteers
Establish relationships to ideally see increase in
volunteer rate and participation for future conferences
At the conference manage and oversee volunteers as
well as the volunteer room
Conduct police checks/working with children’s checks
for all volunteers
Ensure the relevant paperwork is completed for each
volunteer (e.g. volunteer agreement)
This role is supported by The Justice Conference Team who will act as a point of advice,
guidance and encouragement. Induction is provided and TEAR will cover the cost of a
police check.
5. SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential
• Demonstrated commitment and willingness to work in a volunteer capacity to further
TEAR Australia’s mission, vision and values
• Previous experience in volunteer management and/or event management
• The ability to manage a team and motivate others, including volunteers
• Able to work effectively in teams
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience using MS Suite
Helpful
• Experience using the Adobe Creative Suite
• Experience using Google Drive (in particular Google Forms)
• Previous engagement with TEAR and/or The Justice Conference
