blog. Blogging is an easy and fun way
to preserve and share those stories! The presenter will share methods and
successes learned while publishing a
family history blog.
The four topics and their presenters are
as follows:
Migration and Mapping: Oh, The
Places Your Ancestors Have Been
Why every family historian should have
a blog – Andie Criminger
As family historians, we should
preserve for future generations the special
stories unique to our families that are so
easily lost from one generation to the
next. In many cases, families no longer
live close together and reminisce about
life’s ups and downs, so fewer and fewer
stories are being shared and passed
down. Don’t let these stories be lost.
What anecdotes does your family have
that need to be recorded before they are
forgotten? Once written, what should
you do next? One way to pass these
interesting and important narratives to
future generations is through a family
Looking in all the Right Places:
An Overview of Geography and
Genealogy – Karen Molohon
The genealogist needs to know
not only about the longitude and
latitude of the place but also the
location’s relationship to the broader
territory and the physical, biological
andcultural qualities of the region
where ancestors lived.
Finding and Understanding Your
Ancestor’s Occupation(s) in the
Census Records – Karen Molohon
Discover how to use the census
records to determine your ancestor’s
occupation(s) and create their resume.

– Where Did They Go? – Karen
Molohon
Have you ever been tracking
your ancestor and all of a sudden
they disappear? Mapping our
ancestor’s migration may explain their
disappearance or reappearance. Learn:
how to tailor your migration map
to your research, about the U. S.
migration patterns, how the census
enumeration districts help your
research, how to use maps effectively
to solve your mysteries, and how to
look at the past through the present.

school teacher and has been doing

The Genealogist’s
Perfect Vacation
The cold winter months of January and February are
great time to organize your life and make plans for warmer
weather activities, like vacations. Many genealogists plan
their vacations around places where they can do research,
and sometimes that just doesn’t coincide with what most
people would consider a “vacation spot,” like Florida for
instance. This year you can do both: vacation in a sunny
South Florida location and increase your research skills.
Registration is now open for the National Genealogical
Society Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. The conference
takes place May 4-7 at the Greater Ft. Lauderdale/Broward
County Convention Center. Visit the Website (http://
conference.ngsgenealogy.org) to view the many topics,
seminars and activities available for each attendee.
GGS will have a booth in the conference exhibit
hall and sponsor a luncheon on Saturday. It is a chance
for GGS to have a visible presence at a national event.
Attendees at the luncheon will have the opportunity to
experience a lottery in the same fashion as our Georgia
ancestors may have done. In our case the prize won’t be
land, but another lottery-related item that will benefit
family historians.
We hope you will join us in Ft. Lauderdale as GGS
continues its quest to increase the knowledge of people
doing Georgia research. Stop by the booth or, better yet,
volunteer to help out. We’d love to have you.
