Dear Parents, We are excited to hear your child is using Rosetta

Dear Parents,
We are excited to hear your child is using Rosetta Stone from home! We also understand how important it is to
educate Parents on what is required in order for your child to get the full benefit the Rosetta Stone solution has to
offer. With that in mind, we have put together a Getting Started Guide to help your child access the program from
home.
1. Use the System Checker! The system checker is built in to Rosetta Stone and will let you know if any of the
required components of the program are missing. Be sure to click on “first time users” and then “check system
readiness” prior to launching Rosetta Stone. If the system checker identifies any missing components, it will
let you know and provide you a resource for downloading and installing that component (see page 2 of this
document for step-by step instructions).
2. USB Headsets are required for use with Rosetta Stone. Generally they can be purchased online for a
reasonable price. Do not purchase Analog headsets or Analog headsets with USB adaptors, as they are not
supported. Click here for a list of recommended headsets.
3. Head set configuration on your Operating System. Ensuring your child’s headset is set as the default on your
Operating System prior to launching Rosetta Stone is important. Below you will find links for configuring our
headset on various Operating Systems
Windows 7
Windows XP
Mac OS X
4. Headset calibration within Rosetta Stone. This is the final step in order for your child to use Rosetta Stone
successfully from home. Click here for step-by-step instructions.
5. Ensure your child is meeting weekly time expectations. View your child’s progress on a regular basis by
accessing their Learner Curriculum Report via the My Reports link (see page 3 of this document for step-bystep instructions). Please note that the time reflected in the report is time spent actively engaged in a language
learning activity. As soon as you open an activity and access your language learning content, your usage time
begins recording. If at any point during the activity you click on the “pause” button, the clock will stop
recording your usage. Likewise, if you return to the home screen or to the log-in page, your time is no longer
being recorded.
