The outline for the mural, on the opposite page, is divided into eight sections. The sections represent five continents (Europe, Africa, Asia, North America, and South America) and three oceans (Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific). 1. In each section, draw a simple illustration or symbol that represents a key point about one of these topics: • important explorers and their routes • items explorers brought back to Europe from Asia, Africa, or the Americas, or items they took to these places • effects of the Age of Exploration on the people of Europe or of Asia, Africa, or the Americas Create at least one drawing or symbol for each topic. Put each drawing in an appropriate section of the mural. For example, you might draw a horse in North America as an example of something Europeans brought to the Americas. 2. Complete the mural key by briefly explaining how each drawing or symbol represents one of the three topics. For example, you might write, Horse: Spaniards and then other Europeans brought horses to North America. 234 Lesson 33 © Teachers’ Curriculum Institute PROCESSING 33 ⑥ ⑦ ② ④ ① ⑤ ⑧ ③ Mural Key 1. 5. 2. 6. 3. 7. 4. 8. © Teachers’ Curriculum Institute The Age of Exploration 235
