Feel free to take advantage of any of the opportunities offered here. If we can serve you or if you need anything today, simply speak to one of the ushers. Valley Please take a moment to fill out the tear off slip on the back cover of the bulletin and drop it in the offering plate when it is passed later in the service. Presbyterian This bulletin contains all you'll need to follow the service. Just start on the next page and continue as the pastor leads, standing as indicated on the next page and continue as indicated by the asterisk (*). Church We invite you to stay for an informal refreshment time after the service — a great time to meet new friends. Children are welcome in the service, but if you'd prefer, quality child care is provided for infants through kindergarten age throughout the service. Please speak to one of the ushers for locations. As a courtesy to those around you, we ask that you please mute cell phones during the worship time. -10- To all who are spiritually weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to all who will come, this church opens wide her doors and offers welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. NOTES Christ can enter, cleanse, and forgive you in a matter of seconds, but it will take much longer for your character to be transformed and molded to his will. It takes only a few moments for a bride and bridegroom to be married, but in the rough-and-tumble of their home it may take many years for two strong wills to be dovetailed into one. So when we receive Christ, a moment of commitment will lead to a life-time of adjustment. — John R.W. Stott, Basic Christianity By nature, you are completely addicted to this legal method of salvation. Even after you become a Christian by believing the Gospel, your heart is still addicted to salvation by works. In your heart you still want to make the duties of the law come before the comforts of the Gospel…You find it hard to believe that you should get any blessing before you work for it….This is the mindset you tend to fall into: You sincerely do want to obey the laws of God. Therefore, to make sure you obey the law of God you make all of God’s blessings depend upon how well you keep his law…Some preachers even tell you that you had better not enjoy the blessings of the Gospel! They tell you to diligently obey the law first and that only by doing this will you be safe and happy before God. Just keep in mind, however, that if you go this route, you will never enjoy your salvation for as long as you live in this world --Walter Marshall (Adapted and Edited by Bruce McRae) -9- Growth Groups No one can thrive with just a Sunday morning connection. Each of us needs a place to develop genuine friendships, to ask honest questions, and to discover the implications of the Gospel to real life. Growth Groups are where that happens most authentically. They are the primary place for pastoral care. They are open groups led by trained lay leaders designed for the curious, the skeptic, the struggling, the experienced, the new and the old - people all along the spiritual journey. They are the very lifeblood of the church. Contact the pastor or one of these Growth Group leaders to discuss getting involved. Every group is always open to those not yet involved. Brochures on the value and format of Growth Groups are available in the Great Room. Prelude Call to Worship *Gathering Songs We Come O Christ to You We come, O Christ, to you, true Son of God and man, By whom all things consist, in whom all life began. In you alone we live and move and have our being in your love. You only are true life, to know you is to live, The more abundant life that earth can never give: O risen Lord! We live in you, in us each day your life renew! We worship you, Lord Christ, our Savior and our King; To you our youth and strength adoringly we bring: So fill our hearts that all may view your life in us and turn to you! Whate’er My God Ordains is Right Whate’er my God ordains is right, Holy His will abideth. I will be still whate’er He does, and follow where He guideth. He is my God, though dark my road. He holds me that I shall not fall, wherefore to Him I leave it all ` Whate’er my God ordains is right, though now this cup in drinking May bitter seem to my faint heart, I take it all unshrinking My God is true, each morn anew Sweet comfort yet shall fill my heart, and pain and sorrow shall depart ! -8t 26 Whate’er my God ordains is right, here shall my stand be taken Though sorrow, need, or death be mine, yet I am not forsaken My Father’s care is round me there He holds me that I shall not fall, and so to Him I leave it all He holds me that I shall not fall, and so to Him I leave it all -1- HIS Only One God of Grace Once I was dead in my sin, I was helpless and then in my stead, One bled and died and rose as He promised to those He would save by Grace. Now I praise the One, only One God of grace. Chorus: One God of grace, one faith in one gospel, only one way, One blood that saves, the blood of the One who died and lives to give us grace. There's only One God, only One God of grace. One Lord of life, One comforting Spirit, One name lifted high, One love, one hope, one people who long to see One Jesus face to face. There's only One God, only One God of grace. Chorus ! Corporate Prayer of Confession: O God, our Father, You have given us your most cherished treasure, yet we prize many other things more highly than Jesus. We live each day with hearts full of our own desires, minds full of our own agendas, and plans for our own self-promotion. Forgive us, Lord. We admit we are easily captivated by the objects our heart’s desire. Whether we give in to temptation or resist, show us Christ, our only hope for the perfect obedience that we require to stand before you. Cause us to cherish Christ above all else, so that we will be satisfied in him for all eternity. In His precious name we pray, amen.
