Statement of Duties:
The Area Coordinator for Residence Life (No Prefix or Senior Student Services Coordinator) is a twelve (12) month, live-out
professional position that provides unit management to learning, leading, and retention areas of Residence Life. Reporting to the
Associate Director of University Housing, the Coordinator supervises (3-4) full-time, master’s level Residence Life Coordinators, 1-2
full-time bachelor’s level Associate Residence Life Coordinators, and exercises indirect supervisory authority to 80-90 part-time
stipend Resident Assistants, and 1-4 hourly student Residence Life Assistants.
The Area Coordinator of Residence Life provides leadership to the living learning communities program, academic initiatives, and
social justice education within University Housing. This individual will also serve a primary advisor to the university housing student
leadership group (s) and coordinates unit-level leadership development programs. Finally, in coordination with a Student Success
Center designee, this individual plans, executes, and analyzes instruments of assessment aimed at determining student’s progress
towards life skills outlined in the University Housing mission statement. This later task will also involve individual and/or group
intervention meetings (student success coaching sessions) with students deemed at-risk by assessments.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants should minimally possess a Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration,
Counseling or related field, with at least four (4) years of full-time post-master's degree student affairs experience and 1 year of
supervising full-time employees. At a minimum the successful candidate will have previous work experience with at least two (2) of the
following four (4) types of programming areas: 1) living learning communities, 2) retention programs for at-risk collegiate or precollegiate students, 3) advising student organizations, or 4) diversity advocacy initiatives or social justice initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications: UWM is also seeking candidates with the preferred qualifications of previous professional residence life
work, two (2) years of full-time staff supervision in residence life, experience with retention software and/or assessment in a higher
education setting, strong communication and/or presentation skills, experience working with or assisting individuals from collegiate
underrepresented or diverse populations, and the ability to work collaboratively and lead within a team.
Summary of the Appointment Benefits and Salary: This position is a 12-month, fixed-term renewable non-teaching academic staff
appointment with a competitive salary and benefit package. The final salary offer is dependent upon experience and qualifications.
