1. The Columbian Exchange: a period of exchanges between the New and Old
Worlds. Exchanges of plants, animals, diseases and technology transformed European
and Native American ways of life.
2. Triangular Slave Trade: is a historical term for trade between three regions, using a
commodity (good) from one region as payment for commodities from another region. Its
best-known example is the transatlantic slave trade that operated among Europe, West
Africa, and the Americas in the 17th through 19th centuries
3. Indigenous: originating or occurring naturally in a particular place; native.
4. Toussaint L’Ouverture: He was a famous black freedom fighter. He was a major
leader of the slave revolt in Saint Domingue (present day Haiti).
5. Simon Bolivar: He was known as “The Liberator” and the “George Washington of
South America”. He was a leader in the wars for independence in South America against
Spain.
6. Miguel Hidalgo: He is known as the father of Mexican independence. He was a priest
who led a peasant army against the Spanish army in Mexico, which was then called New
Spain.
