Senior Staff Accountant Date: Department: Wage Category: Reports To: September 2016 Finance Exempt CFO General Summary: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for ensuring effective financial controls at Elixir Technologies. S/he will need a strong technical accounting background, the ability to create operations which support GAAP accounting, a broad range of business knowledge and an understanding of business drivers. S/he must have an aptitude for systems and strong management, leadership and communication skills. The Senior Staff Accountant is a high level management position and an integral part of the daily business operations at Elixir Technologies. Under general supervision only, the Senior Staff Accountant will always provide leadership, direction, supervision, development and management in all areas of his/her responsibilities. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for the management of all aspects of the Accounting Department including effective financial controls, and will always exercise discretion and independent judgment for all responsibilities in all areas at all times. Essential Functions: 1. Responsible for the management and supervision of the Accounting Department staff. Supervision includes making meaningful recommendations relating to the hiring and interviewing, retention, termination and advancement of employees; schedule projects and monitor employees' progress; handle employees' complaints; ensure excellent job performance from all employees including being responsible for job performance evaluations. 2. Manages all financial and accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, licensing, control environment and directing corporate financial planning and structure. 3. Coordinates, analyzes and reports Elixir's financial performance, projection and special projects as required to management and the Board of Directors. 4. Prepares short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use by management and the Board of Directors. 5. Will oversee, document and play an active role in the close process – responsible for the timely monthly and year-end processes, including all journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, accruals, intercompany transactions and consolidations. Responsible for the production of monthly financial statements and all other financial reporting. Will compile a business plan, evaluating and making recommendations for global accounting systems and reporting in order to streamline accounting operations, improve information and controls and support Elixir’s strategic needs. Ensure adherence of all reporting requirements. Responsible for managing Elixir’s relationships with banks, partners, third-party service providers. Reviews quarterly payroll tax reports as filed by payroll third-party administrator. Reviews regular sales tax filings. Manages all intercompany transactions including monthly pass-through wiring, management fees and interest on intercompany payables. Coordinates with sales and marketing departments to offer reporting and modeling of product pricing and cost, sales, customer interactions, etc. Oversees quarterly reporting to third party software providers. Manages all internal and external audits and tax functions, coordinates activities with outside audit firms, and responsible for audit firm's performance. Develop, implement and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting and other corporate policies. Determines proper handling of financial transactions and approves transactions within designated limits. Reviews, investigates and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents and reports. Coordinates implementation of business continuity plan. Coordinates implementation of accounting software and control procedures. Will be responsible for managing and supervising the processing of payroll. Manages day-to-day operations. Collects and submits data for federal, state and local tax and information returns. Proficient in all aspects of corporate accounting and all pertinent GAAP compliance as required. Responsible for managing Elixir's 401 (K) plan. Minimum Job Qualifications: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Accounting or Finance BS, MBA or CPA auditing experience desirable. Strong technical skills and understanding of GAAP accounting. Progressive experience of eight to ten years in accounting or finance roles. Experience with software industry and SAAS recurring revenue. Advanced Excel skills and experience with a variety of enterprise-level accounting software.
